Job Description

Volt has an opportunity for you to become part of a prestigious team of professionals. We are seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to work onsite at our client’s facility in Mossville, IL. This is a contingent position expected to last 1 year. The individual hired for this position will work as part of an engineering team to design, develop, integrate, and test software features on embedded electronic controls for use in machine applications.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design and implement software of embedded devices and systems from requirements to production and commercial deployment for product lines
  • Write and code logical and physical database descriptions and specify identifiers of database to management system or direct others in coding descriptions
  • Analyze and enhance efficiency, stability and scalability of system resources
  • Review project requests describing database user needs to estimate time and cost required to accomplish project
  • Machine software feature development
  • Machine software library development
  • Test plan development and software validation
  • Identification and resolution of software defects


  • Four-year technical degree
  • Programming experience in C or C++
  • Knowledge of computer development software as it relates to embedded systems, such as SQL, VisualBasic, etc.
  • Experience with software development tools such as Git, debuggers, and compilers
  • Strong communication skills, strong organizational and time management skills, strong analytical skills, and the ability to identify needed actions and act to resolve issues with minimal oversight
  • Ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse work group

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science
  • 3 or more years of embedded C++ experience
  • Experience with model-based development using Matlab/Simulink in an embedded software environment
  • Working knowledge of embedded real time operating systems
  • Embedded Linux experience
  • Experience with scripting (e.g. python, bash, or ruby)
  • Experience with FMEA processes and a basic knowledge of electronic system failure modes
  • Experience developing embedded real-time software or systems for mobile, earthmoving, agricultural, industrial, or off-highway applications
