Columbia, MO 65202

Pay Rate $35/Hour

VOLT is seeking an Assembly Process Engineer!  This is a 6-month project based position for one of the nation’s largest consumer energy product companies. This position will focus on the development of assembly processes for new product introduction and then the transfer to operations in their Columbia, MO facility.

In this position you will:

  • Help complete assembly technologies (inform about limits & advantages of different technologies)
  • Evaluate and validate assembly, fixturing and materials related to spot and/or resistance welding.
  • Plan and establish the sequence of operations to fabricate and assemble parts or products.
  • Promote efficient use machine and human resources through Process Capability and Statistical Analysis tools.
  • Define the needed to assemblies for each scenario FMEA, VSM and Auto vs Manual studies, while considering budgeting/investment
  • Use systemic methods such as MTM analysis to check assembly time & contribute to the target cost.
  • Write specification and qualification plans for the tools, equipment and production lines to make each product.
  • Manage the realization of the production means at our suppliers (internal or external). Be strongly invested in the technical choices of the different equipment with manufacturing feasibility studies, cost of quality analysis and cross-functional peer reviews.
  • Drive the qualification of the means (equipment and processes) at our supplier and internal operation sites.
  • Participate in the ramp up of the production means to the operations site by leading training, industrial file definition and assistance with material setup and flow.


  • Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronics
  • 5+ years experience in manufacturing industry directly supporting assembly operations
    • Methods, maintenance or factory production support specialized in high volume OR
    • Realization and development of specialized machines
  • 5+ years experience industrialization of new products
    • Receiving new products into operations facility, OR
    • Realization of industrial process in operations facility with new product
  • Six Sigma & Lean Manufacturing tools (5S, Value Stream mapping, Kaizen events, Visual Workplace, etc.)
  • Continuous improvement project experience positively impacting the business


  • Design software (AutoCAD Creo [ProE] or Solidworks)
  • Simulation modeling tools (WITNESS or similar)
  • Knowledge of PLC programming as well as MES / MIS systems
  • Vision systems (Cognex, Keyence)
  • Motion controllers and actuators (IAI, Yasakawa)
  • Experience with electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and production spot/resistance/brazing or welding operations
