Engineering Technician

Description:

JOB SUMMARY:
A Volt client currently has a job opening for Engineering Technician I in El Paso, TX. This position requires the candidate to be responsible for performing activities involving the assembling and integration of military and commercial systems including modification of military platforms.  Candidates must have a basic understanding of cabling, 110-208v power, ability to use a variety of tools, be capable of troubleshooting systems, cabling, and power on a variety of military platforms.
 

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:

  • Work from documentation, written or verbal instructions, installation instructions, one wire, top down,  electrical diagrams, cable diagrams, hardware layouts and blue prints (TDPs)
  • Utilize basic hand tools and power tools for fabrication, drillings, cutting and prototyping
  • Modify existing and or install electrical architectures such as breaker boxes, 110v outlets, electrical wiring runs, etc.
  • Understand American Wire Gauge Standards for labeling, size and color coding
  • Understand Amperage and Voltage for AC and DC currents
  • Work with external fabrication shops to achieve aesthetically pleasing integrations; mounting brackets and custom metals
  • Must have knowledge on industry standards for proper types of hardware and uses
  • Knowledgeable on basic troubleshooting methodologies     
  • Knowledgeable on basic metal fabrication, installing variety of raised flooring, cable conduits, rivnut installation, industry hardware standards and Audio Visual cabling installation     
  • Have used RF and Electrical test equipment such as digital multi-meters, Anritsu, PRM-34 radio test set, LAN Cable testers, receptacle tester for AC, etc.
  • Test electrical systems using tools that include voltmeters, oscilloscopes and ohmmeters to determine where issues may be occurring, the safety of the system and to ensure compatibility
  • Document actions, testing results, observations, final diagnosis of the situation and steps taken to resolve issues for each job or situation
  • Repair electrical issues by replacing or installing components, wiring or devices
  • Determine the steps necessary to assess an electrical situation using testing devices, blueprints and maps

Position Requirements:

  • Completed electrician apprenticeship
  • Proficiency with the National Electrical Code and local codes
  • Two-year technical diploma; or a High School Diploma or equivalent, plus 2+ years' of experience in job-related activity.
  • Ability to read schematics, use service manuals, follow test procedures, flow charts and use logical troubleshooting techniques
  • Must have good communication skills and interface well with others.
  • Requires a valid state driver's license and clean driving record
  • Knowledge of cabling and wiring standards and best practices
  • Strong soldering skills
  • High attention to detail and quality
  • Able to plan and execute daily and weekly scheduled tasks
  • Excellent team player with organizational and time management skills

  • Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
