Job Description

Position:             Field Application Controls Engineer

Status:                12 month contract

Job Location:     Troy, Michigan

Schedule:            Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm


This twelve-month contract is with an organization that is dedicated to being a leader in the digital transformation of energy.  The Field Application Engineers within this organization are highly motivated and pragmatic individuals who demonstrate excellent communication and relationship skills coupled with deep technical knowledge of the customer process. They can understand complex industrial problems and have the ability to overcome diverse obstacles to develop and realize creative and effective solutions. 

This position involves designing Unity Pro logic applications to control automated machinery, discreet industrial processes, and process automation applications. 

As experts, Unity Application Engineers exhibit the following strengths: 
• Operational Management (Vijeo Designer, Unity Pro, “C#”, Visual Basic, Modsoft, Modsoft Loadables, Concept, ClearSCADA, PL7 Pro, OFS), Telepace, RealFlo 
• System Software (UAG, PSX, System Libraries) 
• Controls and Connectivity (PACs, Industrial networks, Ethernet Networks) 
• Field Devices (Computers, PLCs, PACs, HMIs, VFD and Servo Motion Control, Instrumentation, CESs, Motor Control and Management, RFID, Power meters, and third party products) 
• Electrical panel design using AutoCAD 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Perform a variety of electrical controls engineering assignments in developing and implementing production/process and controls methods to meet quality standards and exceed customer expectations in the most cost efficient manner. 
• Develop PLC programs in Unity Pro (ladder diagram, structured text, function block diagram, and sequential function chart). 
• Assist in start-up services, troubleshooting, and training for commissioned systems. Most of this work occurs on weekends. 
• Provide technical direction for complete project development including panel design support. 
• Support project management with maintaining project scope, schedule, and budget. 
• Work on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 
• BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience 
• 5+ years of experience designing, implementing, troubleshooting, and commissioning HMI/PLC/VFD applications, especially with Schneider Electric products 
• Experience with industry standard communication protocols such as Modbus, OPC, Modbus TCP/IP and Ethernet IP 
• Experience with integrating devices from multiple vendors into a packaged solution 
• Experience with the Industrial applications including Automotive and WW/W are highly desirable 
• Knowledgeable in computer networking architectures, topologies, and hardware 
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft operating systems and software applications 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
• Ability to work effectively alone and in a group settings, team oriented, self-motivated, and results driven 
• Knowledgeable in computer programming languages (VB, C#, C++) and HTML development is preferred 
• Stable work history 
• Willingness to travel to customer sites (approximately 30-40%)
