Engineering Director


This manufacturing company located in Everett, WA is seeking an Engineering Director for a full-time direct role. 

  • The Engineering Director plans, organizes and directs all aspects of engineering to meet company objectives for design, new product development, programming, design for manufacturability, testability and production readiness for new product introduction.
  • The Engineering Director is responsible for leading and directing the activities of manufacturing engineers, test engineers, process engineers and technicians.
  • The Engineering Director is also responsible for key enterprise software including the MES and PDM systems and optimizing data flows and data usage
  • . Key metrics include on time delivery, quality, responsiveness and efficiency improvements in both labor and material. Included, but are not limited to the following responsibilities

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  •  Direct, supervise, mentor and develop staff to deliver operational results that meet and exceed planned expectations
  •  Demonstrate strong leadership through training and coaching to drive excellence and a best workplace
  •  Oversees key projects, processes and performance reports, data and analysis. Plans documentation system
  •  Develops, determines and implements policies, procedures and programs
  •  Selects correct design concepts and fundamental technology used for new products or improvement for existing ones
  •  Working with the manufacturing, operations and quality manager, reviews and monitors quality and process improvements and new product development
  •  Reviews operations and plans to meet requirements for sales planning and to ascertain engineering requirements to develop new markets
  •  Directs appropriate support for manufacturing and quality functions within the organization. Conceive, plan and implement continuous improvement activities
  • Provides leadership for problem resolution to facilitate fast improvements and improved internal and external working relationships
  •  Increasing production, assets capacity and flexibility while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining current quality standards
  •  Drive process corrective actions and solutions
  •  Lead implementation of and manage systems and processes that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets
  •  Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
  •  Ensures company equipment is of the right technology and is calibrated and maintained for effective operation
  •  Manages facility to world class Lean and 5S levels
  •  Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  •  Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  •  Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience
  •  10+ years progressive work experience including supervision of large staff with multiple disciplines required
  •  Manufacturing environment experience required

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  •  Strong ability to manage and mobilize cross functional teams through operational changes in process, environment and resources
  •  Excellent working knowledge in MS Office Suite (Advanced Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc). Significant experience in Lean Manufacturing waste reduction techniques (5-S, Kaizen, Continuous Flow, Lead Time Reduction, Value Stream Mapping, and Kanban). Demonstrated knowledge and daily management of ERP systems, Fourth shift preferred
  •  High level of analytical ability to solve complex problems
  •  Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize
  • Ability to present organized and thorough information and data appropriate for intended audience
  •  Proven track record of efficiency improvements, quality improvements and project management. Strong leadership and strong interpersonal skills to build and lead highly effective teams
  • Strong customer service focus
  •  Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to facilitate closed loop communication with all areas of manufacturing and management
  •  Strong teaming skills
  •  Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently
  •  Be flexible, adaptable, able and willing to modify activities and direction with an ever-changing business environment
  •  Strong interpersonal skills and work ethic
  • Possess a professional attitude and promote the same in others

ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS


The functions of this position are not necessarily physically demanding. The functions are usually performed sitting but may require some amount of time standing. Some amount of stooping, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, carrying and other movements may be required. Will be required to attain certification on high-lift devices and work on equipment mounted more than 20-feet off the factory floor. Must be able to remain seated without a break for periods of up to two hours. Able to see, hear and speak adequately to perform the functions of this position.
