Volt has an opportunity for you to become part of a prestigious team of professionals. We are currently seeking an Engineering Program Manager to join our winning team. This is a permanent, in-house position located in Peoria, IL.

Job Summary

The Engineering Program Manager is responsible for managing and driving the delivery of multiple complex projects in the Embedded Systems space. The program manager will ensure compliance with all technical requirements, quality objectives, program milestones and deliverables. This requires detailed interaction with engineers, client engineering managers, sales and marketing teams, recruiting, product support and other stakeholders. As a technical solutions provider, the company is in need of an adept Engineering program manager that has technical subject matter expertise in embedded software engineering, with a combination of experience and education in this field.

Job Responsibilities

  • Interact and manage engineering teams to deliver projects on time, meeting quality and cost constraints. Engineering teams include embedded software developers, hardware architects and system testers as part of our consulting business in the embedded space. Managed teams will be divers in nature and teams will be working on different projects and potentially with multiple clients. A key responsibility of this position is to bridge the gaps between groups to create an organized embedded development community as part of our consulting business.
  • Responsible for the success of all projects under a given program. Take ownership for strategic project planning, create comprehensive plans across multiple engineering and product work-streams, coordinate dependencies and deliverables, track progress against plans, identify risks, help drive issues to closure, communicate status and help ensure quality goals are met.
  • Drive project through development cycles in a Toll gate/Phase gate setup. Participate in product design reviews; provide technical insight and expertise drawing from prior experience, risk assessment, prioritization and delegate responsibilities as requires. Follow action items through to delivery.
  • Responsible for resource management on projects, including talent acquisition working with recruiting and operations teams. Duties include performance appraisals for employees, generating resource assignment matrix and making hiring and firing decisions as required.
  • Mentor junior team members, arrange and coordinate professional training for team members as required.
  • Oversee and prepare State of Work (SOW), work with corporate legal for approvals, work with client’s global purchasing for issuance of Purchase Orders.
  • Support sales channel by participating in new client opportunities to scope out projects and determine resources need to fulfill client’s requirements. Preparing RFP, RFQ for new clients, resource requirements and generating program plans.
  • Lead team meetings to ensure development and testing team employees are leveraging best practices.
  • Grow the Embedded Software Development Service Line to help migrate into new business opportunities.
  • Domestic and international travel may be require occasionally but will not be extensive.  

Required Skills/Experience

  • MS Degree with 6+ years’ experience or BS and 10+ years’ experience in Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication or Computer Science.
  • Subject Matter expertise on complex Embedded Systems projects with applications including industrial systems, instrumentation and control systems.
  • Basic knowledge of mining operations will be nice to have.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Project or similar tool.
  • Previous experience with end to end product development.
  • System integration experience.
  • Familiarity with GPS navigation systems.
  • Familiar with embedded communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet).
  • Requirements management experience.
  • Strong people skills and organized work methodology.
