Volt is currently seeking an Entry Level Mechanical Engineer.

Candidate Responsibilities

Position is with Caterpillar’s Large Power Systems Division in Lafayette, Indiana. The successful candidate will assume responsibility for diesel engine validation development. Program responsibilities will include developing engine program risks assessments, defect monitoring, defect resolution, supporting of validation tests & creating validation metrics for NPI and CPI reporting. Specific Job Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical area. This position requires a self-starter & highly motivated engineer with the ability to communicate information effectively to cross-functional team members. An understanding of project planning and demonstrated skills in data analysis and evaluation of underlying systems is necessary. This person must have strong customer focus, problem solving, and communication skills. Required Skills / Qualifications 1. Education – BSME degree or similar technical field (physics, mathematics, …) 2. Technical Knowledge – Strong technical skills and the ability/desire to continue to learn 3. Initiative – a self-starter that requires minimal supervision who anticipates issue and takes appropriate action without being directed 4. Solid interpersonal skills – the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships 5. Strong communication skills – oral and written complemented by the ability to develop/deliver technical presentations 6. The ability to assemble and lead diverse teams to achieve common goals, and to deliver results on time 7. High personal and professional ethics Desired Skills / Qualifications 1. Experience –engine related systems experience (Design/Simulation/Validation) 2. Experience – min. 2 years of experience with FMEA facilitation & validation execution 3. Previous Six Sigma, Statistics experience 4. Experience with engine testing is desirable 5. The ability to work in – and enjoy working in – a dynamic environment; adapting to and driving change 6. A willingness to work on a broad range of engine applications. 7. A sense of urgency balanced with a strong commitment to quality 8. The ability to work in a diverse team environment with peers & managers 9. The ability to effectively develop and manage complex project plans 10. Computer skills; MS-Office, MS-Project, Pro-E 11. The ability to work/lead multiple projects simultaneously and to make sound priority decisions

Responsibilities • Own their Program Failure Mode Based Validation Plan • Calculate and communicate reliability targets & reliability metrics for NPI programs • Create System & Subsystem level FMEAs • Update FMEA with results of each validation activity • Perform validation plan robustness check (FMEA thoroughness) • Coordinate validation activities in test lab • Develop new product validation activities as needed • Record program lessons learned for use in FMEA library • Track & Report on NPI Issues & managing NPI Issue Resolution
