We are looking to hire an Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator for our client in the Aerospace industry in Burlington, ON for a Day shift for a 12 months contract with the possibility of extension.

  • Shift: Day shift at 40 hours per week  8 hours per day (Mon-Fri)
  • Pay Rate Range: $35-42/hr (T4) + benefits available
  • Term: 12 months contract with the possibility of extension starting from 2018-01-29 to 2019-01-31

Summary:  Reporting to the Plant Manager, as the EHS Coordinator, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all EHS regulations, and monitoring any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Ensures compliance with all EHS regulations, and monitors any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization.
  • Ensures compliance with environmental permits, licenses, and registrations.
  • Manages ongoing compliance and record keeping activities per regulatory requirements.
  • Recommends and implements necessary actions to ensure continued compliance.
  • Coordinates and conducts EHS audits and inspections of premises and operations in conjunction with others to monitor performance and assist the relevant line management to produce action plans to implement the necessary improvements.
  • Promotes the active management of EHS aspects through the identification of hazards, evaluation of solutions and residual risk, and prioritized management action.
  • Develops programs to improve EHS performance and to identify opportunities to prevent pollution and work-related injuries, and to minimize waste.
  • Facilitates and manages EHS committee and other groups within the site.
  • Maintains regular contact with personnel throughout all levels and in all areas of the organization and facility.
  • Provides EHS related training as required by legislation, and identified for the promotion of high standards of EHS management on the site such as respiratory protection, confined space, hazardous waste management, powered industrial truck, etc...
  • Investigates causes of environmental incidents, industrial accidents, and/or injuries and drive development of solutions to prevent or minimize recurrence.
  • Maintains relevant records (i.e. WSIB Form 7), produce reports, and reviews statistics:
    • To work in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all applicable regulations
    • To follow all company EHS requirements including the use of appropriate PPE
    • To participate in all company mandated EHS training
    • To only operate equipment on which you are trained and authorized
    • To immediately report all hazards or accidents to site supervision
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications Required:

  • Completion of post-secondary education in a related field and/or at least 3 years of experience in a Health and Safety or Chemical position.
  • Aerospace/Automotive industry experience
  • Skills Required:
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint)
    • Broad understanding of Hazardous substances
    • Capable of working with a wide range of people from site leader to shop floor
    • Candidates may be required to stand, walk over uneven terrain, bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods of time.
  • Preferred Skills:
    • Certification preferred (CIH, CSP, CHMM, ISO140001/OHSAS18001Systems Auditor)
