ERR Specialist

Downtown, Portland

M-F, 8am-5pm, Full Time

$20 Hourly

Our Client is a $2.8B Portland-based provider of financial products.  The company’s offerings include: group and individual disability insurance, group dental and vision insurance, retirement plans products and services, and investment advice.  Established 100 years ago, our Client offers the stability of an established firm with a collegial, high-touch service culture.

Job Functions:

  • Create, program and modify with Excel (using macros), SAS, SQL and other tools to customize experience and claim reports and Schedule A's for our largest and most complex groups.  Analyze system errors and create the appropriate production programs to produce the correct results.
  • Interpret information on experience related issues and instruct policyowners, brokers, home office and field employees on the derivation of experience reports, claim runs and Schedule A's.
  • Provide staff training, update and write manuals, monitor and oversee the workflow of the ERR Section.
  • Review, approve and produce accurate and timely experience calculations.
  • Produce detailed reports in Excel daily


Ability to:  

  • Understand and interpret the technical aspects of ERR formulas as applied to actuarial calculations. 
  • Ability to learn and use software tools such as SAS, SQL and other software languages. 
  • Ability to design, implement and maintain reports used by non-technical personnel using PC software including Excel, complex macros, formulas and formats. 
  • Ability to explain technical information to non-technical people both in written and oral communications. 
  • Ability to plan and organize own work and activities of others.

Advanced knowledge of: Microsoft Excel (Must take Excel Assessment)

Experience:  Course work in mathematics, business or related field and demonstrated experience in a field requiring mathematical calculations and PC spreadsheet work, or the equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.
