Facilities Technician needed for a 3-6 month assignment

Location: Carlsbad, Ca. 

Pay range: $21.00-27.00/hr

  • Individual will assess and determine corrective action required when responding to equipment trouble calls.
  • When applicable communicates to relevant parties the status of equipment and time frame required to complete maintenance tasks.
  • Takes necessary steps to correct or report equipment malfunctions or unsafe operational practices.
  • Takes a proactive approach to ensure equipment condition is maintained to original OEM specs.
  • Works on short and long term projects individually or as a team member as directed.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards.
  • Takes necessary actions to ensure equipment and/or environment is safe according to Company, local, state and federal codes, regulations and governing policies.
  • Responsible for all facilities related activities; i.e. maintenance, housekeeping (internal/external), overseeing housekeeping contractors, providing annual walk-throughs with city officials (i.e. Fire Marshall) as required, procuring vendor bids for approved building/facilities related initiatives (i.e. floor layouts, cubicle redesign, etc…)
  • Responsible for providing Health & Safety training to operational workforce
  • Responsible for implementation and oversight of the Callaway Injury Illness Prevention Program.
  • Responsible for becoming qualified as the overall Training Authority for heavy material handling equipment and conducting certification and safety training for operational personnel are/or become certified.
  • Responsible for maintaining training records and certifications for safety training, including Industrial Lift Truck Training and ensuring training records are maintained as required by Company policy and procedures.
  • Responsible for leading/facilitating regular Safety Team meetings.
  • Performs individual responsibilities, as assigned by the Manager, EH&S (Carlsbad).
  • Responsible for overseeing maintenance/facilities work conducted by external vendors.
  • Provides daily environmental & safety oversight and communicates issues with supervisor and leads in a timely manner.
  • Perform daily walk-through of all production areas identifying and correcting environmental and safety deficiencies.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

  • Strong knowledge with the operation and maintenance of power transmission such as gearboxes, motors, conveyors, material handling equipment, fully and semi-automated equipment.
  • Knowledgeable in rebuilding pneumatic and hydraulic systems and related components.
  • Basic understanding of electrical prints, symbols and safe testing methods of medium voltage systems.
  • Skilled with the use of power tools, shop equipment such as drill presses, sand blasters etc. Knowledge of welding and machining practices a plus.
  • Ability to troubleshoot from mechanical drawings/prints such as hydraulics prints/diagrams and/or O.E.M documentation.
  • Ability to troubleshoot low voltage control instrumentation and or components such as proportional valves, linear encoders, temperature sensors, servo controls, etc.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical/electrical malfunctions with limited documentation.
  • Ability to train junior level associates.
  • Ability to interact with other associates on the manufacturing floor in a professional manner.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and document equipment records.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement safety training requirements.


  • Minimum 5 years combined experience/education working with mechanical/electrical systems used in high volume manufacturing or related field.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing fully and semi-automated equipment.
  • High School Diploma required
  • Vocation Training Certificate in related field highly desired.
  • Ability to successfully complete a Train-the-Trainer lift truck operator class specified by the company.
  • Ability to successfully complete an OSHA 30 hour general industry safety class
