Job Description

Volt is looking for a Factory Automation Engineer to work on-site with our customer John Deere located in Fargo, ND on a 2+ year contingent assignment. This position will be responsible for the support of the design of manufacturing mistake proofing smart fixtures utilizing various sensor and vision technologies; manufacturing and product data collection; and the display of work instructions and other pertinent manufacturing information.

This person will perform duties with minimal supervision to meet quality, delivery and cost goals. This position requires technical judgment and experience in the development of unique solutions. This individual is required to perform in a team environment, providing guidance and support to both PDP & OFP resources.

1. Support and maintain the JDES Manufacturing Execution System (JDES-MES)
2. Provide support for product and process changes and CI initiatives that impact the manufacturing equipment, tooling, and JDES-MES
3. Provide support for urgent manufacturing issues and maintenance for manufacturing equipment, tooling, and processes
4. Build and perform process capability studies on manufacturing equipment, tooling, and processes implementing corrective actions when required
5. Support the delivery of manufacturing work instructions and other pertinent information to the shop floor (Information Delivery)
6. Support the integration and connectivity of shop floor tools and systems used to gather pertinent data during product assembly (Smart Connected Factory)
7. Provide independent technical guidance to other team members and lead moderate scope projects requiring more than one engineer ensuring both schedule and budget goals are met
8. Assign, coordinate and review the work of Technicians and Contractors performance pay plans.


Education Required: B.S. degree in Engineering or related field and 4+ years of relevant Engineering experience 

Skills and Experience Required:
- Experience with basic controls, sensors and Data Acquisition Systems (DAQ)
- Experience with database management and tools (SQL)
- Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs
- Experience with vision systems (cameras & lenses)
- Experience with vision systems edge detection and lighting techniques
- Experience using, understanding and documenting schematics and design notes
- Experience with development and debugging tools (i.e. oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multi-meters, etc.)
- Experience in statistical analysis (i.e. SPC, GR&R, etc.)
- Good written and verbal communications skills (English)

- Experience with a Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)
- Experience in LabVIEW or other NI programming languages
- Automation experience in motion control and robotics
- Experience with communication protocols (i.e. RS232, Ethernet, USB, etc.)
- Six Sigma Certification
- Experience in Electronics Manufacturing
