Summary:  Operate two or more extrusion lines while producing quality products, meeting production goals (25,000 pounds per shift for each single extrusion line), and maintaining product safety. Work in a team environment supporting fellow employees to meet team production goals, including quality and product safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

To perform this job successfully, an individual is expected to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The employee must work in a SAFE and professional manner including following lockout – tagout procedures.

  1. Ensure extrusion process runs stable at standard speed and output, on two or more assigned lines
  2. Use instruments to verify quality specifications are being met.
  3. Use machine readings to verify quality specification are being met.
  4. Clean and inspect machine as needed at each roll change.
  5. Operate and make standard process adjustments to ensure product quality, process stability, and output. Notify Supervisor or Extrusion Lead of the need for more complex adjustments.
  6. Perform and document Operator level equipment preventive maintenance (PM).
  7. Perform process PM (i.e., clean chromed rollers, clean die lip, change screens, etc.)
  8. Install die shims.
  9. Possess and engage a working knowledge of Una-Dyne Room.
  10. Understand quality specifications and properly interpret and apply them to ensure quality specifications are met during the process on two assigned lines.
  11. Accurately print and apply product labels.
  12. Unload resin as needed.
  13. Grind scrap product, rolls, and edge trim as needed.
  14. Effectively communicate with fellow employees sharing information to ensure team is working towards and meeting production goals.
  15. Install dies, mandrels, containers, heating coils, press tools, extrusion heads, and runout bridging in press using hand tools.
  16. Identify and report equipment issues to the Supervisor and Maintenance Department in accordance to current policies.
  17. Accurately complete daily production line documentation.
  18. Provide significant hands-on contribution to machine repairs, as needed.
  19. Maintain clean orderly equipment and work areas.
  20. Tape and position roll stands as needed.
  21. Accurately print and apply product labels.
  22. Can provide at least four possible solutions to each of the following industry-common product and process defects.
    1. Straight lines in sheet direction
    2. Straight lines across sheet
    3. Curved lines
    4. Spots or pocks
    5. Warped sheet
    6. Thickness variation
    7. Surging
    8. Bubbles (localized sections)
    9. Bubbles (uniformly distributed)
    10. Rough Surface
    11. Melt fracture
    12. Blocking or tacky surface
    13. Flow lines
    14. Die lines
    15. Bridging in feed zone
    16. Carbon specks
    17. Milky or hazy
    18. Excess silicone on majority of sheet
    19. Excess silicon on sheet edges
    20. Telescoping sheet rolls
    21. Curled sheet roll edges


To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.  Work experience may be substituted for diploma.  Experience with extrusion or mechanical inclined.  Experience that suggest inclination:  Auto mechanic, printing operator, machine shop training.
