Job Description

Position Summary:

The Area Lead is responsible for coordinating the activities of production and for maintaining Safety, Quality and Delivery and Costs requirements on a daily basis. 

Accountabilities:

  • Safety – Ensure all personnel in area of responsibility wear required safety equipment at all times; notifies supervisor if additional PPE is necessary.  Inspect department daily for potential hazards.  Make improvements to prevent any injuries, near misses, or OSHA recordables.  Identify and drive correction of all hazards found.  Member of TOPS safety program.  Maintain production rate and monitor activities on site during production to ensure adherence to ethics and safety procedures.  Establish and monitor safe working conditions and practices.
  • Quality – Identify and communicate first pass yield occurrences in area of responsibility.  Communicate OOB reports to team members. Use basic problem solving skills and apply five why’s, assign corrective measures, keep a log of what, who and when regarding issues and corrections. 
  • Delivery – Notify supervisor immediately if there is a problem that will jeopardize the daily production rate.If supervisor is not available, notify the VSM.Ensures that associates have the parts, equipment and tools to adequately do their jobs.Develop and maintain required production reports and records.If parts are not available, ensure those responsible are made aware of the shortage.
  • Cost – Ensure Hour by Hour chart is maintained.  Document down time, defects, and equipment issues. Be aware of reasons for production losses, have corrective measures and document them.  Seek ideas from the team.  Encourage suggestions on improvements.  Follow through to implement suggestions for improvements.   
  • Standard Work & Cross Training – Fully cross train operators in work cell and document.  Provide and audit standard work at the point of use for each job and every product.  Maintain cycle time/takt time charts for every job and product.  Create and audit standard work to eliminate waste, abnormal work activities and train associates to perform their job function.  Maintain focus on continuous improvement through the application of CBS (Crane Business Systems) principles.  Monitor the operation of manufacturing tools, machinery, and/or processes.  Recommend manufacturing methods, procedures and changes in line or departmental layout.  Create and update Method Sheets. 
  • Leadership & Teamwork – Provide feedback to associates.  Encourage team involvement in problem solving and improvement activities.  Attempt to resolve any conflicts among associates; when no resolution can be met, involve the supervisor.  Fully support the team.  Cooperate, offer assistance, and willingly work in a team environment.  Lead shift huddle, assign daily tasks and work assignments. Train employees and perform daily interactions with team members.  Assist supervisor with training and development plans for the team.  Receive and issue basic job instructions from his/her supervisor and communicate them to fellow associates in an appropriate and understanding manner.  Assist and supports supervisor in achieving department objectives and goals.  Fill in for associates during their absence from work or during abnormal conditions.  Provide administrative support. 
  • Adhere to all Company policies, safeguard the company's interests and act in an ethical and legal manner as well as report all violations of Company policies and procedures to appropriate management.

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

Skills:

  • Minimum three years’ experience in a manufacturing environment preferred. 
  • Thorough knowledge of manufacturing methods and techniques.
  • Strong team and leadership skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, to include presentation skills.
  • Proficient in multi-tasking.

Must successfully complete CIDS interview.

Physical/visual activities or demands that are commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk, hear, and sit.The employee is occasionally required to bend, stoop, push, pull, feel and grasp with hands and arms.
  • Employee must exert up to 35 pounds of force occasionally and/or a light amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Employee must be able to stand for long periods.
  • Employee must be able to lift up to 35 pounds regularly.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include concentrated attention, close vision, far vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to bring object into sharp focus.
