Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:    The Saw Operator measures and cuts slabs to final customer size requirement using band saws, amada saws, and friggi saws. Friggi saws require some basic programming/computer skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete startup equipment inspection.
  • Cut large slabs to final size.
  • Cut test pieces from within slabs.
  • Perform in-process inspection to verify slab will yield the required number of pieces.
  • Square the slab using a straight edge.
  • Measure & scribe the outline of the individual pieces.
  • Measure & cut tapered/contoured parts, parts per template shape, and bent parts.
  • Drill & tap lifting holes into parts.
  • Replace saw blade as needed.
  • Adjust saw settings and bearings as required for production.
  • Position parts on the saw bed for both manual and mechanical (hoisted) removal.
  • Operate air-powered hoist when rotating or removing heavy parts from saw table.
  • Will operate forklift and/or dolly to move products.
  • Assure quality and production requirements are met, as per the job-specific travelers.
  • Report discrepancies to supervisor.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Must be able to speak/read/write English.
  • Must be willing to work in different departments.
  • Participate in LEAN manufacturing and SPC activities as required.
  • Participate in total quality management projects to achieve continuous improvement.
  • Analyze opportunities for improving the efficiency and cost savings.
  • Ensure adherence to APP’s policies and procedures, including our code of conduct and ethics policy, product safety, employee safety and cultural beliefs.
  • Ensure adherence to all process specifications.
  • Support the Plant quality system goals / improvements & productivity goals / improvements within the scope of the job.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

  • 1-2 years of High School.
  • Able to understand instructions and safety procedures.
  • Pass Written and Practical Test
  • In compliance with ITAR regulations, must be a US Citizen or US Person (U.S. Person = a natural person who is a lawful permanent resident as defined in 8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(20) or who is a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)).

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Basic English (reading, writing, verbal and comprehend).
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers, supervisor, and other personnel.
  • Basic math and measuring.
  • Basic Computer Skills
  • Should be able to work in any shift.
  • Must be able to work occasional overtime to meet operational deadlines.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Able to work in a demanding fast paced environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Vocational or Trade School Certificate.
  • Experience with material handling equipment (forklift, pallet jack, carts and dolly).
  • Forklift certificate.

  • Position requires hand-to-part force as necessary to stabilize part(s) during cutting or machining process.
  • Capable of repetitive reaching, twisting and bending.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Exposure to sharp aluminum shavings and burr chips.
  • Employee is occasionally exposed to moving forklifts, working plant machinery and power tools.
  • Work environment is indoors in an office and/or on the shop floor at an industrial manufacturing plant.
  • Temperature in work area can exceed 90F throughout the work year. 
  • Noise level in the work environment usually varies from moderate to high.
