We are looking to hire a Hazardous Waste/Chemical Management Specialist/Technician for our Client in the Aerospace industry in Oakville, ON for approximately a 12 month contract with the possibility of extension, through our Company Volt Workforce Solutions Canada.

Reporting to the Environmental Health and Safety Manager - as the Hazardous Waste/Chemical Management Specialist, you will be responsible for the maintenance and functional management of the wastewater treatment system including site wide support of hazardous waste management.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Operating, trouble shooting, and performing preventative & scheduled maintenance for the wastewater treatment system, filter press, probes, filters, pumps, process tanks, sludge removal/disposal, solution replenishment, chemical handling, storage & disposal
  • Perform related departmental housekeeping & 5S activities
  • Coordinate hazardous & nonhazardous waste from all areas of the facility, including oils, coolants, sealants, oily rags, scrap metals, contractor waste etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Handling of hazardous chemicals
  • Material handling using lift truck

Basic Qualifications & Required Experience/Training:

  • Knowledge of Ontario hazardous waste regulation would be an asset
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods Training
  • Previous WWT experience an asset
  • Minimum grade 12 education with some community college courses in the environmental, health and safety field
  • Material handling using lift truck experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in plating processes
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industrial wastewater treatment operations, chemical treatment, handling, storage & disposal, experienced with pumps, probes & filters, confined space requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of emergency response and spill clean-up procedures would be considered an asset
  • Must be action oriented, a team player & be able to work with the minimum of supervision
