Job Description

Volt is seeking a Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic/Welder for an immediate start in SF,CA!

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Performs repairs and maintenance on various rolling stock and stationary equipment to maximize safe and productive operations. Typical repairs include, but are not limited to, routine maintenance and repairing engines, chassis and body components, hydraulic cylinders, brake systems, suspension systems, wheels and tires.
  • Road tests vehicles to trouble shoot problems and/or test repairs to ensure proper safe completion.
  • Reads and interprets VCR's (vehicle condition reports) and/or repair orders, communicates with supervisor and/or driver for clarification of problems. May discuss preventive techniques with drivers to minimize future repairs. 
  • Occasionally makes emergency road calls to make repairs on trucks that break down while on the road.
  • Uses a large array of hand and power tools.
  • Pushes or pulls large tool box weighing up to 1,000 lbs., as needed.
  • Uses impact wrenches weighing from 15 - 50 lbs.
  • May carry parts and tools distances up to 50 yards.
  • Cleans parts and tools with chemical solvents.
  • Completes written repair orders to document repairs.
  • Drives vehicle to troubleshoot problems or assess effectiveness of repairs. Makes adjustments as necessary.
  • Inspects visually and/or listens for listens for problems. Feels for unusual vibration or suspension and or/tire problems.
  • Reads, reports, discusses, demonstrates, and completes forms as needed.
  • Drivers service vehicle to location where SBR truck needs service. Performs repairs as described duties above.


  • 5 - 7 years experience performing repairs and maintenance on heavy duty diesel tractors, heavy duty equipment, and stationary equipment.
  • ASE Certified preferred
  • Experience and knowledge of fabrication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Federal D.O.T. Out-of-Service Criteria including CHP B.I.T. Inspections and DOT compliance audits. 
  • Valid California Driver's license with excellent driving record.
