Job Description

Volt is currently seeking a Hydraulic Design Engineer.

Candidate Responsibilities

As the hydraulic engineer based in Decatur, IL, you will work NPI hydraulic system designs and development for Off-Highway Truck applications. You will have responsibility for the development of technical specifications, component selection, cost tracking, analysis plans, validation plans, program management plans, and conducting design reviews and stakeholder updates. Periodic hydraulic system analysis may also be required. You will also contribute to create/manage the Hydraulics budget for specific projects and must also collaborate closely and lead cross-functional teams with product groups, other component groups, and the extended value chain. Current product support responsibilities may include production factory or field maintenance, system cost management and system/component Continuous Product Improvement project support. The job provides opportunity to continuously learn and grow with the latest technology and techniques.

As a Hydraulic System Development Engineer, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the concept, development, and design of complex hydraulic subsystems, components, and processes while also strengthening your analytical skills and mastery of engineering concepts. You will partner with and provide technical guidance to global teams. You will contribute to the planning and delivery of projects, continually learn and stay abreast of innovative technology, and broaden your professional network.

Typical Day

*Provide technical guidance on needs analysis and initiate ideas * Communicate results to global customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units * Work with global teams in the design of new products, processes, components, and systems * Drive to complete projects on time and on cost * Acknowledge and raise customers’ and management’s awareness of trade-offs between time, resources and quality. * Support the factory and field with technical issues * Design and promote new components and sub processes * System analysis and idea initiation * Evaluate new products, processes, or systems * Communicate results to customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units * Perform product design maintenance • Confer with management, engineering, and other staff regarding scheduling, capabilities and process improvements

Education Requirements:

* Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum required.

Technical Skills

* Relevant work experience required; 3+ years of experience with product design and development process, including New Product Introduction and Continuous Product Improvement required. * Experience with hydraulic systems on mobile off-highway construction equipment required. * Hydraulic component, systems or controls experience required. * Previous machine and machine controls experience required. * APQP and NPI experience required. * Strong analytical skills required. * Exhibited ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in work group, as well as business units, customers, and suppliers required. Differentiating factor: More experience with hydraulic systems on mobile off-highway construction equipment required.
