Industrial Engineer

This aerospace company in Sumner, WA (near Tacoma) which has been designing, testing, and manufacturing composite products for the aerospace industry for over 30 years is seeking an Industrial Engineer for a direct, full-time role.  Their client designs, engineers and manufactures Interior Structures, Crushed Core Seat Shells, Cargo Liners.  The Industrial Engineer will be responsible to develop tools, processes, machines and equipment to integrate the facilities and systems for producing quality product with the optimum expenditure of capital. Experience with composite process and specifications of thermoset and/or thermoplastic parts and structures. Capable of communicating with supporting organizations personnel. Capable of establishing sequences of operations to fabricate and assemble composite products that promote efficient utilization of equipment and labor.

Capable of implementing new manufacturing processes. Responsible for applying and establishing statistical methods, which control the process and maximize productivity.

Capable of supporting various products, equipment and disciplines to increase productivity, quality, efficiency, volume and/or environmental requirements. Capable of implementation of continuous improvements by the use of Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen methods. Capable of creating or providing feedback of production schedules and milestones.

Capable of reviewing drawings, models, engineering specifications, orders, and related information to obtain knowledge of manufacturing methods, procedures and activities.

Experience in establishing qualification plans, in order to qualify processes and equipment to the customer specifications. Familiar with composite autoclave or oven curing cycles, thermal profiles, recipes, thermal effects, thermal expansion, wrinkles and tooling spring back effects. Capable of designing or defining the requirements for the development of equipment, robotics, Lay-up molds, Vacuum Holding Fixtures, Shop Aids, Positioning fixtures, Go-No-Go inspection tools required for the manufacturing of new products.

Capable of developing and implementing methods, which increase productivity of work center. Capable of performing safety, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and Total Product Maintenance (TPM) for new and existing equipment. Capable of performing Corrective and Preventive Actions, utilizing analytical reasoning, and the use of industry standard methods, such as 8D or other equivalent root cause analysis.

Coordinates with vendors, staff and management personnel regarding purchases, procedures, product specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and incident/project status. Applies engineering principles when analyzing data and investigating issues. Patrols and monitors work areas, examining tools and equipment in order to detect unsafe conditions or violations of procedures or safety rules. Responsible for developing production standards. Responsible for evaluating or checking other manufacturing engineers work. Understanding of industrial engineering practices, such as, time studies, statistical analysis, ergonomic impacts, value engineering principals. Provides mentoring to other manufacturing engineers. Some mentoring responsibilities. Other duties as assigned.

 Job Requirements

The ideal candidate should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum of 5 years' experience. Non-degree applicants 10+ years’ minimum experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified in this job description. Should have composite fabrication build experience.

Composite part process improvement activities. CATIA or Autodesk experience. Blueprint reading and GD&T. Shop floor experience with Composite fabrication process Oven and Thermal Profile history and experience.
