Job Description

Volt is seeking seasoned IT Business Analysts to support a team at our Clients Research Center in Hampton, VA.  The BA will interface with numerous organizations to support the Center’s business automation efforts. This position focuses on their Service Now team implementation.  They have a backlog of new applications that need to be developed.


  • Collaborate with Client’s organizations to identify, document and communicate business needs.
  • Translate customer needs into business requirements and high level technical specifications.
  • Communicate effectively with all team members, stakeholders and project sponsors on technical and non-technical topics.
  • Plan, elicit, capture, analyze and validate business, functional and technical requirements. Develop elements of systems design, including user stories, business process documentation, workflow charts, diagrams, data migration rules, business rules, wireframes, or other detailed deliverables.
  • Facilitate requirements elicitation sessions and walkthroughs with business and IT resources.
  • Strive toward continual optimization across processes using technology to solve issues and increase efficiency.
  • Plan functional testing and UAT for projects and enhancements.
  • Collaborate with end users and developers on developing comprehensive test cases.
  • Perform current state analysis of existing business systems, applications and functions.
  • Produce timely and high quality requirements-related work products, including requirement specifications, process flows and mock-ups.
  • Answer questions and clarify requirements for projects and enhancements during the software development lifecycle process.
  • Understand the relationships, dependencies and impact of neighboring business functions.
  • Document, analyze and assess current business processes and underlying systems / applications.
  • Evolve into a subject-matter expert who can easily liaise between IT and other organizations at NASA LaRC.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.


Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in technology, programming, or business.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a BA.
  • Hands-on technical experience, preferably in software development.
  • Experience using agile methodologies such as Scrum / Agile.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to create wire frames; leveraging intuitive design.
  • Strong MS Office skills.
  • Knowledge of all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Strong business acumen; ability to understand business models quickly.
  • Ability to interpret customer process requirements and recommend efficiency improvements that fit within the software platform.
  • Demonstrated self-starter; strong initiative.
  • Ability to manage and focus on multiple tasks and changing priorities.
  • Technical writing experience.
  • QA / QC background.
  • Understanding web based systems and SaaS model.
  • Ability to model high level solutions.
  • Ability to understand technical constraints

Desired Skills:

  • Experience or familiarity with ServiceNow
  • Experience or familiarity with software development processes.
