Job Description

Volt is seeking a Jr. Linux Systems Administrator for our client, a major government contractor, at a location in Merrifield VA.   The selected candidate will be given an opportunity to exercise and expand his or her skills in an enterprise environment filled with unique challenges.  The successful candidate will display a passion for information technology, problem-solving, and a desire for continuous learning.   The position is expansive and additional responsibilities may be assigned.

Applicants selected must have ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance

Responsibilities:

  • Perform operations and maintenance on Red Hat Linux and HP-UX operating system and its associated software.
  • Administer HPUX and Red Hat Linux in support of Oracle databases.
  • Perform daily health monitoring routines to ensure the availability of applications and networks.
  • Research, test, and deploy patches and STIG settings.
  • Troubleshoot, add, and remove physical and networked storage.       

Requirements: 

  • Prior experience managing accounts (add/remove/enable/disable/reset passwords).       
  • Good understanding of Linux internals (system calls, file systems, processes, etc.) and familiarity with the Linux Command Line Interface.        
  • Ability to write scripts to complete repetitive tasks using open source programming languages such as Shell script Python, Bash, Ruby, and/or Perl.
  • Familiarity with RDBM systems such as Oracle.
  • Applicants selected must have ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government clearance and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. 

Desired Experience: •        

  • Familiarity with Virtualization technologies including RHEV, VMware, vSphere, or Citrix Xenserver.       
  • Good understanding of ports and protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP, SSH, NFS).        
  • Experience with network storage such as SAN and NAS, specifically HP and Dell products.      
  • Familiarity with Configuration and Patch management solutions (e.g. Satellite).        
  • Experience with System monitoring solutions (e.g., Splunk).
