Long-term contract $21.44 an hour.

Volt Workforce Solutions is seeking a Synthetic polymer chemist. for a well know industrial manufacture for their Maplewood location.  This is in their Electo Chemical Materials Group.

Position Overview:

Synthetic polymer chemist needed to contribute to an anion exchange membrane development program.  This position will be focused on lab work to functionalize polymers with cationic side chains.  Responsibilities will include both synthetic tasks to generate new materials and the characterization of membranes fabricated from these new polymers. 

Position Duties:

Synthesize polymers for anion exchange membranes (AEM) ionomers.

Characterize membrane properties by using NMR, ion exchange capacity (IEC), and related techniques.

 Fabricate membrane films and test for mechanical properties such as tensile strength and tear resistance.

 Characterize AEM membrane stability in concentrated base.  Follow loss in IEC and degradation in mechanical properties as a function of time.

 Contribute summary of experiments and data in quarterly reports.

Basic Qualifications:

•   BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Polymer Science

Preferred Qualifications:

•   MS or (strongly prefer) PhD. In Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Polymer Science

•    2-5 years lab experience

Core Hours:

40 hrs per week

Works with moderate work direction, and can identify issues/problems but may need  assistance in resolving.   Worker to assume responsibility for initiating and performing defined technical activities leading to new or improve products, processes or technologies on a program basis. Usually reports to a supervisor or senior technical individual. Duties and responsibilities may include initiating and completing technical activities leading to new or improved products or processes which have significant impact potential at a program level.

Establish and cultivate a network of support (laboratory, manufacturing, engineering sales and marketing) to facilitate completion of assignments. Participate in project planning, and documents experimental data/observations in technical notebooks (or approved electronic files), prepares reports, and makes oral presentations.
