Job Description

Lab Technician (12-month contract) St. Paul, MN

$16/hr.

Summary:

To assist Application Engineers in the laboratory by receiving and following instructions in operating laboratory equipment. To assist in elementary laboratory tests and experiments. To document observations of tests as required.

Responsibilities:

1.

Follows written or verbal instructions to prepare, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment. Assists in elementary laboratory tests and experiments under specific instructions.

2.

Performs equipment calibrations and standardization to ensure accurate calculations of test data. Ensures the completion of experimental operations by maintaining accurate records of experiments and adequate inventory of supplies and equipment.

3.

Documents observations and results in Excel. Assists in data summarization. Reports test results to appropriate staff.

4.

Performs routine lab duties including shipping and storing of customer samples. Performs other duties as assigned.

5.    Prepares test samples utilizing bandsaw, drill press, metal shear, knife blades, electric drill, etc.  May need to create unique fixtures to hold test samples.

Qualifications:
Formal Education/Field of Knowledge: High school/G.E.D. level of education or associates degree or equivalent experience through training is normally required to apply knowledge of laboratory procedures and methods.  Must have basic computer skills.

Job Skills/Competencies: The person primarily uses manual skills to prepare, operate, and maintain equipment involved with product testing. Also required are basic mathematical, coordinating and communication skills.  Must be mechanically inclined, have good attention to detail, organizational skills, and able to coordinate multiple projects at the same time.
