Job Description

Test Technician (12 month contract) St. Paul, MN


The successful candidate will have experience and interest in working on and developing specialized equipment and conducting complex test methods that relate product responses to key process variables for multiple project teams.  Specific experience utilizing particle milling techniques, creation of dispersion formulations, solvent and water-based processing, accelerated aging test protocols, statistical data analysis, and roll-to-roll web is highly desirable.

 This position will require the contingent employee to utilize their processing and analytical testing experience to provide cross-functional teams with data and insight.  Well-developed data collection, analysis, and communication skills are needed as both verbal and written reporting of experimental results with recommendations will be prominent components of this job.


  • Running milling equipment and milling particles to meet design specifications
  • Milling equipment clean up, modification and maintenance
  • In-process and post-process testing of milled samples
  • Providing data and test-method development for new products and technologies
  • Following Standard Operating Procedures
  • Following all safety rules and standards
  • Collecting and preparing specimens for testing
  • Documenting test conditions and communicating results accurately
  • Leading or assisting in analytical equipment modification and maintenance including:

Particle measurement systems, Density measurements, Spectrophotometers, Optical microscopy and image analysis

Completing independent projects as needed

Works with moderate work direction, and can identify issues/problems but may need assistance in resolving. Worker to assume responsibility for initiating and performing defined technical activities leading to new or improve products, processes or technologies on a program basis. Usually reports to a supervisor or senior technical individual. Duties and responsibilities may include initiating and completing technical activities leading to new or improved products or processes which have significant impact potential at a program level. Establish and cultivate a network of support (laboratory, manufacturing, and engineering) to facilitate completion of assignments. Participate in project planning, and documents experimental data/observations in technical notebooks (or approved electronic files), prepares reports, and makes oral presentations.
