Life Insurance – Staff Assistant

Hillsboro – Tanasbourne area

Pay rate $17 - $19 per hour DOE

Full Time (Flexible start time between 7 am – 9 am)

The Staff Assistant for the Life Insurance Department accurately inputs new claims and provides administrative support for key department functions.   Acts as first point of customer contact by responding to incoming phone requests from policyowners, beneficiaries, brokers, insured, and field personnel.  Accurately communicates claim information and company policies.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

50%    Establish system records, analyze claim documentation, set up new claim files and secure additional claim information.  Assist the department by securing relevant information pertaining to claims and follow-up on outstanding information within prescribed timeframes.  Determine correct policy numbers and appropriate systems to check and subsequently input data into the claims systems. 

30%    Provide prompt, accurate information via telephone and email to insured, beneficiaries, policyowners, group offices, agents and other types of callers.  Accurately transfer callers to other areas of the company as needed and follow up where appropriate. Respond by phone or email to company requests for information such as legal indexing, bankruptcy notices and policyholder terminations.  

20%    Distribute mail and reports, prepare benefit checks for mailing and close completed claims.  Identify destination of mis-routed mail and ensure delivery to appropriate area.   Maintain accurate filing system of closed and denied claims within the department.  Properly route closed claims to records as needed.   Prepare daily accounting batches and prepare claim transmissions for outside vendor.

  • 2+ years of Administrative work experience.
  • Intermediate in MS Office - Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • One year demonstrated customer service experience; demonstrated ability to complete a variety of high volume tasks timely and accurately.
  • Accurate keyboarding of 45 wpm
  • Pre-employment requirements (background check, drug screen and education verification)
