 Manufacturing Engineer- Level II- Estimator                                                                         

This aerospace company in Auburn/ Sumner, WA which has been designing, testing, and manufacturing composite products for the aerospace industry for over 30 years is seeking an Manufacturing Engineer- Level II- Estimator for a full-time, direct hire role. Their client designs, engineers and manufactures Interior Structures, Crushed Core Seat Shells, Cargo Liners.

General Position Summary:

Responsible for estimating and proposal support of high-quality, economically competitive aerospace products. These products typically include composite detail fabrication and assembly.

Special Skill Set(s) Required:

Previous experience estimating changes in the aerospace industry and support of change board activities for engineering department.

Essential Functions:

Develop estimating models to support proposal development and engineering changes to existing product.

Support Procurement with engineering data to obtain cost and schedule input for outside services and purchased products.

Support Tooling Department and Procurement with engineering data to obtain list of tool string including cost and schedule information.

Support Operations and Quality with detailed manufacturing steps required to fabricate components and assemblies. 

Research and provide supporting data for capital expenses required to support proposals. This could include new equipment and facility upgrades.

Participate in Change Board activities assisting in estimating and implementation of engineering changes.

Experience with composite process and specifications of thermoset and/or thermoplastic parts and structures.

Capable of communicating with supporting organizations personnel. 

Capable of establishing sequences of operations to fabricate and assemble composite products that promote efficient utilization of equipment and labor.

Capable of implementing new manufacturing processes. 

Capable of creating or providing feedback of production schedules and milestones.

Capable of reviewing drawings, models, engineering specifications, orders, and related information to obtain knowledge of manufacturing methods, procedures and activities.

Experience in establishing qualification plans, in order to qualify processes and equipment to the customer specifications.

Familiar with composite autoclave or oven curing cycles, thermal profiles, recipes, thermal effects, thermal expansion, wrinkles and tooling spring back effects.

Capable of designing or defining the requirements for the development of equipment, robotics, Lay-up molds, Vacuum Holding Fixtures, Shop Aids, Positioning fixtures, Go-No-Go inspection tools required for the manufacturing of new products.

Coordinates with vendors, staff and management personnel regarding purchases, procedures, product specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and project status.

Applies engineering principles when analyzing data and investigating issues.

Responsible for developing production standards.

Responsible for evaluating or checking other manufacturing engineers work.

Understanding of industrial engineering practices, such as, time studies, statistical analysis, ergonomic impacts, value engineering principals.

Provides mentoring to other manufacturing engineers.

Specific Job Skills:

  • Aerospace Product Estimating and Proposal Development
  • Read and comprehend drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of Boeing and Airbus process and specifications.
  • Skilled in MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint, Project
  • Epicor experience or equivalent ERP system
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication skills; able to prepare technical documents to be sent to customers.
  • Proficient in Catia V5 (preferred), Inventor, Pro-e, Solid Works, or other 3-Dimensional CAD system.          
  • Understanding of AS9100D and NADCAP standards

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing, Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or related field; Minimum of 5-7 years industry experience.

Non-degree applicants 10+ years’ minimum experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified in this job description.
