Volt is currently placing for Materials Supervisor in Monroe, NC.  Qualified candidates will be team players with 5-10 years experience.


5 am-1:30 pm Monday to Friday (Must be flexible and work overtime when necessary)

Position Description

The Materials Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Materials Manager in organizing, planning and implementing strategic processes to ensure safe and efficient receipt and storage of incoming product. The Material Supervisor will direct all daily activities of the material handling team in support of the Materials Manager. The Materials Supervisor should have working knowledge of materials supplier, economic order quantity, stocking locations, line side stocking locations, BAAN receipt, BAAN inventory adjustments, and proper material handling techniques.

Major Areas of Responsibility

Major areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

  • Be able to insure a safe environment and proper procedures are met.
  • Ensures insure all material handlers are following safe and proper handling of product as noted in the Receiving Work Instructions.
  • Facilitates the receiving and storage of all incoming raw materials.
  • Understands and execute any BAAN receipt or material adjustments.
  • Must understand inventory control.
  • Coordinate the distribution and pickup of local processors and suppliers.
  • Insure that all line side storage and 2 bin processes are followed to ensure no part outages on floor.
  • Insure proper cycle count processes are followed.
  • Communicate any shortage concerns to buying team and operations.
  • Fosters positive working relationships.
  • Position requires ability to adjust to changing conditions, to be flexible in work schedule, and to be able to work on special projects as required.
  • Must have a record of implementing continuous improvement ideas.
  • Must hold department accountable for all actions of the department.
  • Understanding of Materials Flow and setup locations for new products.
  • Work with Quality group on non-conforming material and 1st articles.
  • Must be present on the receiving/shop floor.
  • Any other duties assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

This position requires the following essential knowledge, skills and abilities in order to satisfactorily fulfill the Materials Supervisors role:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with internal and external customers.
  • Proven computer abilities, Word, Outlook, Excel, general computer skills and BaaN.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and work under pressure.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Dependable and self-motivated.
  • Knowledge of Kanban, Consignment, FIFO, Lean techniques, 5-S
  • Warehouse Management System experience a plus

Education and Experience

  • Work Experience: 3 - 5 years
  • Career Level: Experienced 
  • Education Level: High school diploma required; degree in related field preferred.

Physical Demands

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear.  The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel.  The employee is required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles.  The noise level in the work environment is primarily moderate to loud.
