Then the Mechanical Engineering Manager may be the position for you!

We are currently seeking a talented and experienced professional for the position of Mechanical Engineering Manager in Richardson, TX.  This individual will be responsible for the functional management of the mechanical design engineers and provide engineering leadership in the development and design of new base station antenna products.  The ideal candidate will be goal oriented, with a passion for results and innovation, and exhibit strong leadership, technical, and managerial skills.  The ideal candidate will possess a background that demonstrates the ability to lead a world class team of engineers, in the areas of product performance, manufacturability, cost optimization and reduction of time to market.  This individual will be a member of an engineering management team responsible for managing the development activities of global engineering group regionally distributed among three design centers located in the US, India and China.


  • Oversee the mechanical development of new products from concept through to production while ensuring adherence to NPD stage gate product development process.

  • Lead, teach, coach, mentor and build the mechanical engineering design team. Nurture a collaborative environment across all design sites while empowering local engineering team leads and engineers.

  • Oversee the resource planning of the mechanical engineering staff supporting antenna development and address staffing and performance management needs.

  • Implement best practices in design tools, techniques, and processes. Emphasize utilization of tools like tolerance analysis, stack up study, prototyping and FEA analysis during product realization. Seek out opportunities to reduce time to market.

  • Establish and communicate general mechanical product design and performance criteria.

  • Ensure engineering designs meet cost and performance objectives.

  • Work with cross-functional development teams including antenna engineering, process engineering and marketing to innovate new product approaches and solutions.

  • Ensure effective engagement with above functions as a part of NPD process.

  • Actively seek and lead design optimization and cost reduction initiatives. Maximize the use of common parts and manufacturing technologies in modular product platforms

  • As a Subject Matter Expert for Mechanical Engineering function, lead and participate in Engineering reviews, including Project and Design reviews.

  • Develop short- and long-range goals & objectives that effectively support the overall goals & objectives of the company.

  • Consistently and effectively drive the organization to reduce the time to market of product design cycles.

  • Act as Commscope representative on various internal and external committees.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering is a plus

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience leading engineering team for product design in a high-volume, electro-mechanical environment.

  • Extensive knowledge in designing components using Sheet Metal, Die-Cast, CNC, Extrusion and Injection Molding. Additionally, the candidate will also need to be knowledgeable of assembly processes like ultrasonic welding, screws, adhesives and rivets.

  • Previous experience conducting DFM with suppliers is a must.

  • Recognized for key technical contributions and leadership by engineering peers and management

  • Extensive knowledge of material and process selection particularly with steel, aluminum and glass filled polymers.

  • Successful track record of product development of electro mechanical devices as demonstrated by taking numerous products to the market.

  • Experience in stress analysis is required. Experience in ANSYS or Cosmos software a plus

  • Experience in thermal analysis is required. Experience in tools such as Flotherm, ICEPAK or equivalent a plus

  • Experience using solid modeling software - SolidWorks or similar

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to regularly contact, influence and negotiate with both internal and external individuals on complex issues

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to lead problem-solving teams

  • Experience managing globally diverse teams

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools.

  • Experience with RF communication is a plus

  • Must be able to respond to inquiries and complaints with tact and diplomacy
