Medical Devices Technical Writer

Contract to Hire, DFW

**Must have experience writing IFU's whose end users are patients and/or clinicians**

The Senior Technical Writer will research, write, and edit technical documentation to support new and sustaining product development projects. Will collaborate with development engineering, marketing, regulatory affairs, and clinical, among others, to gather inputs for IFU's.


  • Write and manage IFUs for CATD products
  • Gather input from Engineering, Marketing, Clinical, and Regulatory, etc., to define specific requirements for IFUs by attending project meetings and meeting with individual experts as necessary.
  • Enhance professional appearance and readability of product IFUs by editing them for grammar, consistency, style, and format.
  • Coordinate final IFU implementation to ensure that all requirements and deadlines are met (including translation, freelance graphic designer, documentation release, and print vendors, etc.).
  • Produce IFU content by following defined requirements, using the following prescribed software FrameMaker, InDesign.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant technical discipline, Communications, Science, English or equivalent.
  • Six plus years of progressively more responsible experience as a technical writer in a medical or high-technology (preferably biotechnology) environment.
  • Experience with InDesign required.
  • Experience working in a content management system a definite plus.
  • Current or recent medical device or pharma industry experience.
  • 3-5 years experience in the medical device industry.
  • End-user technical writing experience. (Direct experience writing clinician and/or patient manuals.
