Job Description

Position:  MEMS Technician (1st shift)

Location: Itasca, Illinois

Status: 6-12 month contract

This opportunity is with a global supplier of dependable and precise products including hearing aid components, MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical systems) microphones, audio processors, capacitors and components used in communication.  


Seeking motivated individual to work in a fast paced, market oriented R&D team supporting development engineers with characterization, failure analysis, sample prep and report writing.


  • Perform characterization and failure analysis on semiconductor wafer samples, including sample preparation, mounting, microscope imaging, measurements, and conclusion reports
  • Work with equipment manufacturer to maintain & calibrate equipment
  • Work independently and collaboratively, assist on assignments with other engineers as needed 
  • Provide direct oral and written communication updates regarding activities
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Report to Manager of MEMS Process Engineering


  • AAS or BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electronics Engineering Technology, Materials Science or equivalent
  • Experience with electrical characterization techniques (CV, impedance measurements, etc)
  • Experience with sample preparation for semiconductor wafers,MEMS experience preferred (wafer cleave, dicing, epoxy potting, polish)
  • Excellent manual dexterity required due to typical sample size
  • Able to take vague or abstract instructions from engineers and based on experience, come up with an appropriate inspection/metrology method
  • Able to recognize unusual/non-standard features and highlight these for additional review by a Sr. MEMS Engineer
  • Able to document procedures and methodologies for traceability (standard operating procedures, inspection reports)
  • Willingness to learn and expand role to encompass additional metrology equipment
  • Experience with scanning electron microscope (SEM), EDX, Zygo Interferometer, thin film thickness measurement a plus
  • Familiarity with basic reliability concepts a plus
  • Good communication and people skills required
