Volt Workforce Solutions has an immediate need for a metallurgical technician located in Decatur,IL

The Metalurgical Technician is part of a team that will be  responsible for metallography, microstructure ratings and photos, mechanical testing, and hardness testing of ferrous casting, steel, and forged components as required to qualify purchase-finished, field failures, and internally produced product. The technician must have good record keeping skills, and be able to read and use micrometers and calipers, as well as be familiar with tensile testing. The technician will primarily work in-the metallography group in the Metallurgical Laboratory. The primary testing focus for this position is microstructure reading, rating and photography.  In addition, there will be hardness testing (contour, surface and microhardness), and possibly tensile, and charpy impact testing with mounting and polishing preparation responsibility. The technician must be capable of communicating with all levels of employees found in a professional lab environment, including supervisors and engineers. The technician must be team oriented, self-motivated and be flexible to working weekends and overtime when needed.

Individuals must be responsible, team orientated, self-motivated, and possess good time management skills. Individuals need to be detail orientated, dedicated to upholding quality standards, and adaptable to an ever-changing work environment. Excellent work ethic, initiative, and a positive attitude are required. Good communication, teamwork skills, and the ability to support a high velocity-manufacturing environment are critical. Individual must have basic computer skills including MSWord, Excel, and ability to learn shop SPC system. Flexibility to working alternative shifts, weekends, and overtime is also a requirement. Individual must possess a high school degree; college degree is preferred. Exposure to metallurgy or materials science concepts and ISO 9001/17025 is highly desirable. Individuals should have experience interpreting engineering drawings and following written audit guidelines.
