Position:   MOLD DESIGNER                                                       


The Mold Designer works independently to construct new precision injection molds and fixtures using common tool room production equipment. The Mold maker also troubleshoots, diagnoses and makes repairs to existing injection molds and fixtures.

Duties Include:

  • Construction of new injection molds from design/construction through initial mold testing.
  • Maintenance, repair and modification of existing tooling, molds and fixtures.
  • Operation of all typical tool room equipment including: EDM, CNC, Bridgeport mills, lathes, grinders and associated measuring devices.
  • Program, setup and operate CNC and EDM machinery.
  • Assist in the design, manufacture and maintenance of injection molds and fixtures.
  • Assist the Tool Room Manager in the preparation of tooling quotes.
  • Work with Q.C. and production departments to troubleshoot and maintain quality of molded product.
  • Coordinate work assignments and tooling equipment usage with other mold makers.
  • Coordinate and communicate tool building material requirements with Tool Room Manager.
  • Use Solidworks to view and edit mold designs and fixtures.
  • Use Solidworks and/or MasterCam to create electrodes based on mold design requirements.
  • Create, edit and close tool repair orders in IQMS database.
  • Use MasterCam to create and develop CNC programs.
  • Must observe and adhere to ISO 9001 / AS9100 / ISO 13485 Quality System Procedures.
  • Must adhere to GMP.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience Requirements:

10 years' experience in tool making for injection molding. Must be able to work independently. Must be able to read CAD files and drawings. CNC experience required. Must be competent in the setup and operation of all common mold making machinery, equipment and measuring devices. A working knowledge of Solidworks and MasterCam programs is strongly preferred.
