Job Description


Our client is hiring for a Network Engineer in Hanahan, SC.

Join our client's team to support a federal organization responsible for providing and delivering health care services including the Defense Health Agency (DHA) and the United States Coast Guard (USCG).  With 55 full-service hospitals and more than 370 clinics, this is one of the largest health systems operating more hospitals than any nonprofit hospital system nationally.  This support encompasses information technology infrastructure, systems, and technologies required to support the delivery and execution of the medical mission.  The work will be headquartered in the Charleston SC area, but work may be done from other locations.  Travel will be required for about 50% of the time.

The Network Engineer may analyze, plan, modify, and maintain networks and network components supporting data, voice and/or audio communication activities.  Prepares the analysis of short/long term capacity needs for switching, routing transmission and signaling.  May conduct network architecture design, feasibility and cost studies as well as internal studies of network performance and traffic analysis. 

Duties may include providing specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture; providing information for hardware and software selection; and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements. Conducts testing of network systems. Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, switchers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc. Evaluates and reports on new network technologies to enhance capabilities of the network. 

The successful candidate is an expert who has demonstrated industry and public service leadership in one or more of: medical systems; advanced system architecture; information assurance; hardware technologies; digital/analog communications technologies; applied physics; human factors engineering; computer simulation; electronic sensor technologies; and ERP.

Demonstrated experience in at least two of the following areas:

  • Ability to plan and organize work and interact with technical and non-technical personnel translating user requirements into responsive applications.
  • Demonstrated detailed knowledge of IA concepts and requirements.
  • Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of DOD military specifications and standards.
  • System design integration planning for multiple large-scale installations. 
  • Hardware and software Evaluation
  • System Test and Evaluation, planning execution and management.
  • System requirements planning and oversight.
  • Technical development product milestone scheduling.
  • Understanding of FISMA and HIPAA IA requirements.
  • Information Security Management and Information Systems Audit.


  • HS with Technical Training in relevant technical field and twelve (12) years or more experience; Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience; PhD or JD and four (4) years or more experience.
  • Twelve (12) years of hands-on experience with “Specific Projects” to include three of the following areas: Systems Requirements, project management and strategic planning, HIPAA requirements, Medical Systems, Operational Requirements, Enterprise Strategic Planning and operations, Enterprise systems incident management, Test & Evaluation, and Training. 
  • Hours outside the standard work week may be required in the course of this project execution.

IAT Level 2 Baseline Certification in one of the following (or higher):

  • CCNA Security (Cisco Certified Network Administrator)
  • CySA+ ** (CompTIA certification formerly listed as CompTIA CSA+)
  • GICSP (SANS Institute)
  • GSEC (SANS Institute)
  • CompTia Security+ CE
  • SSCP (ISC)2 or CISSP certification
  • One Operating System certification in Microsoft, Vmware, Citrix, Commvalut, Dell or NetApp.
  • One Training Certification in Windows, SQL, Cisco, Adobe, Java etc.

Technical knowledge and expertise in at least eight (8) the following technologies:
