Job Description

Volt is looking for an OEM technician who can bond components together/sensors to assemble items and/or solder together components to assemble items, as specified by work orders, diagrams, or layout, by performing the following duties. Temp to hire in Chelmsford, MA. Pay is $15 – 16.50 and will be willing to train the right candidate!


  • Work under microscope for long periods of time
  • Use small hand tools/tweezers to hold sensors without damage
  • Apply sensors to product and blast parts per drawings with masking tape or fixture as necessary
  • Burnish parts per drawing and send 1st piece to QC.
  • Clean parts with sponges and m e k and clean parts with vapor cleaning. Also, cleans work piece with file, hand brush or grinder.
  • Bonding gages and parts and clapping and oven cure per drawings.
  • Put tabs e post cure and clean excess glue per drawings
  • Heats soldering iron in electric induction coil, or plugs iron in electrical outlet.
  • Plunges tip of iron into cleaning compound and rubs tip onto specified tin alloy to clean and tin tip.
  • Guides tip along seam to heat work piece to bonding temperature and dips bar or wire of specified soft solder in seam to solder joint.
  • Dips parts in cleaning solution and work pieces into molten solder or places solder strip between seams and heats seam with iron to sweat items together.
  • Solders broken parts or covers holes to repair leaks.
  • Fine wire soldering while using microscope and coats OEM parts.

CRITICAL COMPETENCIES:  Ability to work with fine detail typically under a microscope.  Fine dexterity skills and the ability to effectively work with small hand tools over extended periods of time (multiple hours).

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to effectively count and perform basic math functions (addition/subtraction).  Ability to record an input work time and quantity into labor reporting system.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CUSTOMER FOCUS: Ability to meet internal customer needs in terms of both quantity and quality.  External customer contact is minimal.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally and frequently lift 5-15 lbs.  Bending and reaching occasionally.  Ability to focus on fine detail work with visual clarity with frequent use of microscope.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Low noise, well-lit work area.  Contact with solvents or industrial cleaning products, adhesives, and masking products.  

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working under microscope in high precision environment.
