Job Description

Our client is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

Right now, we are seeking an Opto-Mechanical Staff Engineer to join out Team!  In this role, you will have lead design experience with opto-mechanical systems in an aerospace environment and be comfortable working to flight requirements. Experience in high vacuum systems, solid state lasers, radar or RF systems and design for manufacturing are also desirable!

  • Lead all activities for mechanical engineering project(s) including planning and managing technical performance to ensure quality, business, and financial objectives are attained.
  • Establish design concepts, criteria, and engineering efforts for product research, development, testing, and integration.
  • Interact with management and customer representatives concerning projects, operational decisions, scheduling requirements and contractual clarification. Act as primary contact for mechanical engineering activities.
  • Participate in the development of new business opportunities and expansion of existing business opportunities. Participate with Group management in pursuing business partnerships, alliances, and joint ventures that enhance the capabilities of the Group/Company.
  • Contribute to the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of contract(s).
  • Perform system sizing and mechanical architecture development for products early in the design phase.
  • Lead progress review sessions to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance.
  • Identify engineering issues and provide leadership in developing solutions such as re-allocation of resources or modifying contract specifications.
  • Oversee the development of and ensure the security of the unit's proprietary technology and maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Designs, develops, and tests all aspects of mechanical components and equipment.
  • Supports the engineering staff in the analysis, investigation and resolution of routine engineering problems.
  • Define functional, performance, interface and derived system engineering requirements, including environmental requirements definition and flow down to subsystems.
  • Identify critical requirements and develop risk reduction plans.
  • Responsible for the design, development, and activation of opto-mechanical components.
  • Integrate hardware onto platforms including ground based, maritime, or flight vehicles.

What you need to succeed (Minimum Qualifications/ Requirements):

  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree, Masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and
  • Progressive engineering experience as follows: 12 or more years of experience with a Bachelors degree, 10 or more years of experience with a Masters degree, or 7 or more years with a PhD.  May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Must have experience with Opto-Mechanical engineering.
  • Must have experience with military systems including designing, analyzing, building and testing systems.
  • Must have a complete understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
  • Address complex technical challenges drawing on advanced engineering concepts. Past experiences should include: Opto-Mechanical design, Structures, Mechanisms, Weldments, Composites, Sheet Metal, Machined parts, Piping, Bearing Systems, and Drive Trains.
  • Formulate plans and guide the development and implementation of engineering solution(s) including design, procurement, assembly and testing, deployment including integration, resource requirements, documentation, compliance and safety.

Will make you stand out (Preferred Qualifications/ Requirements):

  • Self-motivated requiring little supervision and able to multitask in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Experience with Aerospace hardware in a defense industry, is desired.
  • Experience with CAD, FEA and CFD software such as ProE/Creo, Solidworks and ANSYS, is desired.
  • Experience with engineering proposal efforts and scheduling is desired, including BOE, EVMS, and IMS.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DOD Security Clearance.
