Volt | Outside Plant Engineer | Spokane, WA

SUMMARY

VOLT’s client is looking for an Outside Plant Engineer. They will be primarily responsible for designing and overseeing construction of fiber optic telecommunication cabling in an enterprise environment including but not limited to telecommunication spaces, cabling pathways, horizontal cabling, backbone cabling, and telecommunication grounding.

Develops detailed construction packages in accordance to company design standards, specifically NESC standards consisting of scope of work, drawings, bill of materials and other documentation to be used by both internal technicians and external contractors. Inspects and supports construction while updating as-built records and creating support documentation for use after construction.

Opportunity to also provide designs for critical power systems supporting telecommunication equipment including generators and battery-based systems. Successful candidate is expected to be self-motivate and able to work independently on assigned tasks while also collaborating in a strong team environment.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience designing copper and fiber optic structured cabling systems in commercial, industrial, or corporate environment required from point to point.
  • Good working knowledge of the BICSI Telecommunications Distribution Methods Manual (TDMM) required.
  • Ability to work effectively with many other internal departments (Substation Engineering, Distribution, Transmission, Real Estate, Telecom, GPSS, Joint Use)
  • Must have good working knowledge of National Electrical and Safety code (NESC)
  • Experience with AutoCAD preferred
  • Preferred experience with NFPA 70: NEC, TIA/EIA standards, and BICSI TDMM Building Standards for Telecommunications Cabling required
  • Experience designing battery-based power systems for telecommunications equipment preferred
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, related field, or equivalent experience preferred
  • BICSI Registered Communication Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification preferred
  • Other combinations of education/experience may be considered
