Job Description

Packaging Engineer Intern/Co-op $19-21/hr. DOE (contract to direct)

Andover, MN

Volt has partnered with a growing manufacturing company in search of a Packaging Engineer! In this role, you will provide packaging internship expertise with a focus on packaging but not limited to, design, develop, test and implementation for new and existing products. You will also work within a cross functional organization, supporting warehousing, transportation, operations, supply management, quality and others to ensure the highest level of profitability and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide packaging expertise in areas of design, product development and testing.
  • Evaluate and implement package value engineering opportunities.
  • Generate and control detailed documentation through engineering change requests (ECO).
  • Daily support to Logistics and Operations. 
  • CRP – Customer Resolution Process resolving and responding to customer issues.
  • Maintain accurate dimensions and weights data.
  • Assist in supplier selection and transition.
  • Interface with customers on a professional level to develop innovative solutions.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by Director of Logistics.
  • Travel outside Minnesota < 5%.

Requirements:

  • Student working on Bachelor’s (BS) degree in Packaging Engineering or Packaging Sciences.  
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA preferred.

Skilled in CAD or solid modeling software knowledge:

  • Packaging materials and technologies and Bill of material structure. 
  • Lean Manufacturing procedures and processes.
  • Testing standards including ASTM and ISTA.
  • ISPM-15 bug free requirements.
  • Matrix/Enovia and JD Edwards.
  • Engineering change order process (ECO’s).
  • Warehousing functions –storage, shipping, receiving and systems.
  • TOPS or CAPE palletization software.
  • Global sustainable practices

CER’s (capital expenditure requests) – Project basis Abilities:

  • Effective verbal, written and presentation communications.
  • Organize and manage personal workload schedule and Project Management.
  • MS Office Suite programs and other computer operations.
  • Adapt to business changes and visions.
  • Develop budgets, schedules and scope.
  • Six Sigma practices and procedures.
  • Support production floor and offsite manufacturing related to packaging.
