Job Description

Sr. Process/ Manufacturing Engineer – (E4) is to perform any and all required tasks to develop or coordinate the development of manufacturing processes for selected parts using process development methodology.  Performs project engineering work requiring application of standard and advanced manufacturing and quality techniques, procedures and criteria in developing/improving processes and or manufacturing systems.  Independently develops clear and specific objectives for given assignments that may require the investigation of several alternative solutions.  Effectively participates in a setting to achieve results.  Effectively leads moderate to large projects. Ability to effectively train and be trained.   The physical requirements of the job include being able to stand or walk for extended periods of time, occasionally lift loads of up to 70 pounds over a short distance, and pass an annual vision test.

Essential Job Functions

  • Identify, create and apply manufacturing best practices and standards by means of work instructions, set up and operations of plant manufacturing processes.
  • Act as a vital resource for technical questions related to manufacturing and quality processes.
  • Develop corrective actions that may occur internal/external using known corrective action techniques such as 5- why, 8-D and customer driven corrective actions.
  • Implemented corrective actions and monitor, evaluate, and report their effectiveness.
  • Develop work travelers, interpret customer print specifications, and identify proper tooling for each program.
  • Utilize available software programs for quoting purposes.
  • Utilize software programs to develop and implement CNC programs for production and prototypes.
  • Assist in quotation process by following quality planning and customer related requirements.
  • Develop robust manufacturing process for new job opportunities.
  • Capture and document all data relevant to final process.
  • Communicate variation in final process from quoted process.
  • Determine process readiness for production floor.
  • Interact with Customer base to provide technical customer service.
  • Know, understand, and follow safety rules and regulations defined in handbook
  • Know, understand, and follow the Quality Policy and ISO 9002/AS 9100 procedures
  • Know, understand, and follow the Nadcap procedures
  • Understand and follow Quality Operating Procedures (Q.O.P.)
  • Write Process Change Notices (PCN)
  • Evaluate in-process Process Change Notice (PCN) as needed
  • Write Quality Change Notices (QCN)
  • Verify proper Quality Change Notice (QCN) implementation.
  • Perform other duties as required

Other tasks include but aren’t limited to:

  • While developing a new process:
    • Create basic part, fixture, gage programs.
    • Modify existing part, fixture, gage programs.
    • Perform various CNC lathe and mill machine set-ups.
    • Generate detailed proposals for basic projects.
    • Perform routine daily preventive maintenance.
    • Identify heat numbers and keep separate.
    • Identify, loading, and unloading of proper raw materials into the machine.
    • Preparing the machine for daily production run.
  • Understand and conform to customer visual standards.
    • Verification of proper document revisions and part count quantities.
    • Daily verification of inspection equipment.
    • Start and perform daily production.
    • Producing parts to all customer specifications as called out on their print.
    • In-process checks through proper use of various forms of inspection equipment and gauges.
    • Proper documentation through in-process inspection sheets.
    • Identify visual defects on the product.
    • Identification and review of Foreign Object Debris (F.O.D.).
    • Identifying and making proper tool offsets.
    • Properly identify tool wear and replace tooling as needed.
    • Working in new/replaced tooling to finish part dimension or proper roughing stock.
    • Properly identify and segregate parts including pre-production, post-production, and scrap parts.
    • Preparing the machine and work area for set-up of next process after completion of production run.
    • Maintain a clean and organized work space.
  • Training E3’s and lower in the above tasks and functions.
  • Direct and oversee the work of E3’s and lower in the above tasks and functions.

Job Specifications

A successful candidate can be described as follows:

  • BS in engineering plus appropriate continuous training.
  • Experience – 8-10 years of experience in a manufacturing engineering position.
  • Experience in programming CNC Lathe, Mill, and EDM from prototype- to production quantities.
  • Experience operating CNC lathes, Mills, and EDMs machining aerospace grade metals maintaining ±.0005 inch tolerance.
  • Must be familiar in solid works-3-D CAD software.
  • Proficient in CNC lathe, Mill, and EDM process development.
  • Multi axis equipment experience required.
  • Experience in cutting tool design and fixturing design.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong Computer and office software skills.
  • Professional, reliable, honest, even tempered, self-motivated and driven to learn and succeed.
  • Proficient in reading and understanding part prints including gauge points, section views, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T).
  • Able to use all forms of inspection equipment.
  • Thorough and meticulous in developing and continuously improving production processes.
  • Able and willing to work well with others.
  • Organized and neat.
  • Able to start and complete tasks.
  • Able to follow directions (written and verbal).
  • Proficient in performing all the tasks described in the above job description.
