Job Description

Product Developer-(Temp assignment from 6 to 12 months)

Salary range is about 74k to 79k DOE.

Responsible for leading and coordinating activities related to commercialization of new products from bench to pilot to support Plant; support Process Engineering in developing new production processes and making modifications to existing manufacturing systems to improve overall efficiency and profitability; work to ensure products are of a high quality and are manufactured in a reproducible manner. Develop pilot/lab processes for new incoming formulas

1. Lead scientific aspects for lab batches utilizing processing lab equipment, including product characterization for multiple product families

2. Conducts technical projects independently for improvements on the lab process for personal care products. Perform routine analytical work such as rheology runs, pH, Brookfield viscosity, microscope analysis, particle size analyzer, etc.

3.Provide product expertise on ideal ratios, heat-map diagrams/graphs, proper amounts and temperatures for raw materials

4. Perform design of experiments(DOE) such as full factorial design, 3 factor DOEs to determine interactions between ingredients and develop 3D bar charts and pareto charts correlating interactions

5 .Run bench-top batches routine with minimum assistance. Develop chemical classifications for physio-chemical properties of ingredients. Summarize data for process engineering and operations use

6. Work with the team to assure all specifications (ingredient specification, formula specification, making specifications, finished product specifications, etc.) are accurately developed before product approval and production 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: BS in engineering, chemistry or other Science discipline.
  • 5-10 years of experience in product developments and relevant work experience required in personal care/cosmetic/ aesthetic OTC drug/ food industry formulation laboratory/regulated GMP production/laboratory
  • Experience with Excel, MS PowerBI, Spotfire, Minitab or other visual and statistical tools
  1. Experience in the design and development of Personal Care Cosmetic and OTC products
  2. Knowledge of stability trials and validation processes
  3. Commercialization experience – translation from R&D ideation to Factory operations
  4. Personal Care Product Development Experience (EE must “hit the ground running”)
  • Ability to work within a fast paced, dynamic team environment
  1. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal
  2. 5-7 years + of formulation and product development directly related to personal care products and design of experiments, including acting as subject matter expertise with emulsions, suspensions, body washes, toothpastes, sunscreens, shampoos, and major personal care families


  1. Direct experience and knowledge of the chemistry and interaction of the ingredients used to develop Personal Care products, including gelation points of hydrocolloids, effects of pH/temp/chemical interactions on product, thermal denaturation, acid-base reactions, and other reactions.
  2. Knowledge of cGMP in pharmaceutical or cosmetic products
  3. Knowledge of sampling and measurement quality tools
  4. Good oral and written communication skills; speak and write English
  5. Immediate level computer skills in Microsoft Office Professional Edition
  6. Able to work any shift, and overtime as needed
