Job Description

Plastic manufacturing company located in Somerset, NJ needs a Machinist to join their Production team on the 1st shift.

You will be responsible for the preventive maintenance, repair and the machining of parts and tools for production equipment.


You will be required to  modify existing equipment as well as fabricate parts to keep equipment running, have experience using machine shop and welding equipment and have knowledge of molds and the ability to assist in molding repair.

Maintenance mechanic with experience in plastic packaging for the food industry is strongly preferred!

Essential functions:

  • Provide general support to the Production Secondary Equipment Department
  • Perform & complete hydraulic and electrical trouble shooting
  • Ensure all completed work orders are entered into IQMS system weekly
  • Repair of production equipment
  • Complete preventative maintenance of assigned equipment
  • Ability to work as a machinist to help fabricate parts
  • Ability to weld for permanent repairs
  • Assist in the installation and moving of equipment.

Position requirements:

  • High School /Trade School Diploma / GED Equivalent
  • Machine Shop Certification with 15 years’ experience
  • 20 years of Welding Experience
  • Experience using electric & hydraulic schematics, with proven troubleshooting abilities
  • Proficiency in English language – read, write, understand and speak fluently
    • Bilingual language skills (Spanish) a plus
  • Willingness and ability to learn new techniques and concepts
  • Ability to work well under pressure, demonstrate safe work habits, multitask, have good communication skills, and be able to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, work overtime as needed and share responsibilities with On-Call System
  • Own basic standard and metric tools / toolbox

Food Safety Requirements:

  • Monitor and verify activities to ensure that all maintenance work in the facility meet food safety standards in addition to quality standards.
  • Comply with all company food safety and quality assurance procedures and complete documentation correctly.
  • Ensure all work product contact surfaces are restored to sanitary condition after any job completion.
  • Report incidents, and product or process failures that could impact food safety of manufactured product to your direct reports and submit a safety/food safety incident reports. 

Pay Range

$25.00-$30.00 DOE
