Job Description

Production Supervisor (contract to hire) $60k

(12 hour rotating schedule/must be able to work 1st & 3rd shift)
Alton, IL

Leads team members to manage all daily operations within the department (laboratory, general operations, sanitation, and RTE system operation).  Manage production staff to attain production and quality goals and sanitation.  Identifies problems or bottlenecks in production processes and resolves issues.  Ensures production resources including materials, equipment and human resources are available as needed to maintain production schedules.  Supports continuous improvement goals in safety, quality, cost and customer service.  This position will work closely with plant customer service and transportation to keep operations and scheduling to optimize plant operational efficiencies, manage inventory of supplies and spare parts as needed for efficient operation of department, and must be able to act quickly when a quality issue develops to ensure a safe final product.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of department equipment, financial budget, safety, human capital etc.
  • Supervises activities of workers engaged in repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment. Schedules repair, maintenance, and installation to ensure continuous production operations.  Participates in development of preventive maintenance program in conjunction with engineering department.  Inspects operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards.
  • Oversees the production and shipment of quality products to fulfill customer requirements. Controls and effectively utilizes the production capacity, manpower and equipment and outside resources through planning, organizing and scheduling to minimize losses; works within the framework of the budget to optimize company profitability.
  • Maintain cost effective programs and practices that are consistent with plants.
  • Ensure total employee involvement and linkages of individual and team activities to losses and the business need.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, quality specifications, safety standards and sanitation practices.
  • Motivate and enhance skills of direct reports and associates including those indirect reports assigned for sanitation and other special duties.
  • Support QA department as needed which may include running quality tests (farinograph, DON, Cookie Bakes, Doughnut trials, and others), and perform quality audits, aseptic swabbing and sample collecting.
  • Assist other department managers as needed.
  • Oversee capital projects in your area and contractors working in the plant as needed.

  • Must be able to rotate shifts on a set schedule.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Agriculture, Business or related field required.
  • Two years manufacturing experience required.
  • One year+ supervisory experience required.
  • Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of continuous improvement processes including but not limited to TPM, 5S, and Visual Workplace highly preferred.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate operational curiosity in seeking out root cause and resolving issues.
  • Excellent oral and written skills, willingness and effectiveness to share information with other RTE Production Supervisors.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience in a union facility is a plus.
  • Experience with several computer applications including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
