Quality Inspector – position is located in Davis, California


The Quality inspector I is responsible for performing and verifying in- process inspection audits on machined and welded production, off the shelf store bought parts, and manufacturing materials.  Ensures documentation (I.E. material certificates, heat treat certificates, vendor inspection report, etc.) is accurate and completes inspection reports, history logs and associated paperwork as required. May provide feedback to manufacturing personnel and the Purchasing Department regarding quality inspection of the manufactured or bought part.


  • Performs in-process audit inspections, first article, final inspection and receiving inspections on production parts and engineering materials.
  • Completes inspection reports, history logs and associated paperwork.
  • Ensures inspection documentation is complete and accurate.
  • May provide feedback to manufacturing personnel and the Purchasing Department regarding quality inspection of manufactured parts.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience working in Mechanical Quality Inspection or another trade (Machining or Welding) with similar inspection responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and analytical skills for basic inspection tools such as (calipers, micrometers, dial bore gage, profilometer, indicators, height gages, optical comparator, and surface plates).
  • Basic understanding of Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and judgment with regard to working with professionals at various levels of the organization.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to clearly communicate results of quality control activities.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail necessary to support multiple tasks and maintain company records.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing inspection priorities based on customer demand and requirements.
  • Basic data analysis skills.
  • Basic computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and Internet.
  • Other duties as assigned or needed

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Work can be performed on a manufacturing floor around heavy machinery.
  • The Quality Assurance Department operates on a 9 X 80 work schedule with periodic overtime required.
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate to low.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and arms to perform repetitive motions; to sit, talk, and/or hear.
  • Ability to wear proper PPE for machine shop, QA, and assembly floor environment such as steel toed boots, safety glasses and ear protection where needed.
  • Standing on concrete floors for long periods and frequent sitting is required.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. repeatedly.
