Test Engineer, Expert SW & HW – 9 mo contract – Lexington, MA

Volt Workforce Solutions is seeking a Test Engineer to work with Software and Firmware for our client in Lexington, MA for a 9 month contract with potential to become permanent.

 Main Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute test plans verifying functionality of a newly developed analytical instruments involving low signal optical detection, temperature and motion control, and PC interfacing.
  • Work with electronic, mechanical, firmware, and software designers on a multidisciplinary team to test, document, and recommend improvements on the prototype designs. 
  • Analyze analog performance of high gain amplifiers and filter designs.
  • Work with engineer(s) to debug hardware/firmware/software issues.
  • Verify and document design and transition to manufacturing. 
  • Develop and document hardware design specifications, verification test plans and document results.
  • Develop FMEA and identify areas of improvement or potential solutions.
  • Write test software that for analyzing functionality of newly design instruments.
  • Work with quality engineers to ensure regulatory and compliance testing is passed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in electrical/electromechanical engineering or similar field.
  • Experience with analytical instrument design, optical detection, and temperature/motion control.
  • Knowledge of metrology, good experimental technique, and documentation skills.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in developing test processes for newly developed instrumentation.
  • Ability to write test software in C# or Visual Basic.
  • Ability to lead test, debug, and analysis activities
  • Excellent time-management skills and commitment to meet deadlines.
  • Expertise in electrical CAD systems with working knowledge of schematic design and drawing standards.
  • Experience in firmware testing and development environments.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing, compliance, and regulatory testing.
  • Experience with emulators/debugger, oscilloscopes, logic-analyzers, environmental test chambers.
  • Basic hand tools, soldering, machine tools.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute test plans, procedures, scenarios, and test scripts to accurately verify new product designs, firmware and software updates, regulatory and compliance according to defined requirements.
  • Identify, analyze, and create detailed reports of problems that appear during testing such as hardware failures, firmware and software bugs or defects.
  • Work directly with hardware and software developers to find solutions and develop retesting procedures.
  • Provide frequent feedback to developers, including recommendations for improvements, evaluation of problems, potential solutions, and discussion of further test requirements.
  • Work with Quality, R&D, Manufacturing, and Service to write and assemble test software for current test protocols and future needs.
  • Work through the transition from R&D to Manufacturing including review of procedures, manufacturing testing criteria, rework and refurbish plans. 
  • Work with Service to identify test plans, problem identification, and repair procedures. Identify common parts and service parts as well as parts needed for preventative maintenance.
  • Design and implement automated testing tools when possible, and update tools as needed.
