Job Description

R & D Engineer

•  Work with the coffee industry experts to develop, prototype, and manufacture new products

 Translate product discussions into technical specifications 

 Turn specifications into models, drawings, proofs of concept and eventually production parts. 

 Build prototypes

 Design tests and test stands to evaluate new products

 Describe software changes precisely using words and flowcharts. Familiarity with embedded design is very useful for this.

•  Work with the manufacturing team to develop and implement solutions for production issues

•  Communicate with vendors to answer technical questions about parts

•  Approve new parts and samples.

•  Make engineering changes for product lifecycle support. Produce documentation and communicate changes as needed.

•  Build CAD models and make engineering drawings. Use a PDM system to manage revisions and changes.    

Skills and experience:

 Mechanical design experience

 Experience building CAD models and assemblies

 Experience making drawings from CAD models like drafting. 

 Design for manufacture. Experience in a machine shop is highly valued.

 Understanding of materials properties and selection. ex. when is it appropriate to use aluminum vs stainless steel etc.

 Electrical design skills

  Good understanding of circuits. Need to understand how to read and draw electrical schematics

  Basic understanding of power electronics and best practices, i.e. wire gauge sizing, insulation classes.

 Familiarity with UL / CE certification processes is a bonus

 Strong project management skills are needed. This role will require the engineer to do some of the legwork of translating a plan into actionable tasks

 Technical writing skills are highly applicable to this role. Clear and robust communication of technical information is critical, especially when working with teams in other countries.

 Familiarity with ERP systems like SAP
