R&D Engineer

Location:  Westford, MA

6-month Contract

Volt is seeking a R&D Engineer to join the software development team for a leading Medical Device company.  A qualified candidate will understand software requirements; objectively analyze problems; efficiently design and implement solutions; and clearly document their work. Your team will work on the design and implementation of application and system level software on an embedded Windows platform.
 

In this position you will build a rich client interface, customize controls, (make it look nice!) for a brand new medical device product.

  • Be responsible for providing engineering support in the creation and the development of new medical device products (invasive and non-invasive).
  • Be responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively as a member of our group during the development and implementation of new software features

Major Responsibilities

  • Researches, develops, designs, and evaluates mechanical and electro-mechanical materials, components, assemblies, processes and/or equipment.
  • Conducts feasibility studies to verify capability and functionality.
  • Develops new concepts from initial design to market release.
  • Directs support personnel and coordinates project activities.
  • Write and submit intellectual property (patents).
  • Maintains detailed documentation throughout all phases of research and development.
  • Investigates and evaluates existing technologies.
  • Reviews or coordinates vendor activities to support development.
  • Write and submit professional articles for technical journals.
  • Research various cost-effective, alternative approaches to current processes.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree (graduate degree preferred) in Computer Science or related studies.
  • Minimum 5 years of commercial software development experience
  • Strong C# skills.
  • Experience developing multi-threaded Windows applications
  • Experience with UWP windows development
  • Experience with the versions of the .Net Framework (framework, core)
  • Experience with software build and installation processes, Jenkins
  •  

Nice to haves

  • Experience with MVVM framework is a plus. (Mvvm Light is used on site)
  • Experience with REST based communication is a plus.
  • Experience building customized UI controls is a plus
  • Experience with COM client/server architecture and inter-thread/process communications is a plus.
  • System hardening procedures, such as application white-listing and digital signatures is highly desirable.
  • Medical Device experience
  • Experience with source control, and problem tracking tools is required.
