Job Description

Process Development Engineer - Direct Hire

The R&D Process Development Engineer will have the specific responsibility of developing and implementing processing methods and procedures that will produce composite conductor core products according to the requirements of the company. The R&D Process Development Engineer will focus on development of thermoplastic processes and will also have the responsibilities of improving the processing and performance of our current composite core products. In addition to process development, activities will also include development of test methods to better determine and predict performance.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


• Developing and implementing a process to efficiently produce thermoplastic pultruded core.


• Developing and implementing continuous improvements to better produce epoxy pultruded core.


• Developing expertise in pultrusion processing, especially thermoplastic pultrusion processing.


• Working with external vendors in the development of thermoplastic and/or thermoset pultrusion processing.


• Development and implementation of techniques to better characterize pultruded core.


• Development of improved understanding of the variability of composite conductor cores and characterize the relationships between the variability and core performance.


• Support production floor implementation of new products and processes required to produce thermoplastic pultruded core.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


• B.S. degree in chemistry, engineering or related field. M.S. degree preferred.
• 5 years of lab experience with either polymers, composite materials or adhesives required, 10 years preferred.
• Experience in introducing and supporting composite product development into a production environment.
• Work experience in thermoplastic composite processing very preferred.
• Experience with mechanical testing and characterization of composites desired.
• Must be able to travel internationally.
• Experience in microscopy a plus.
• Must possess the ability to work independently, innovate and take responsibility.
• Must be able to multi-task and to self-educate on new test methods.
• Must have the ability to effectively work with external vendors.
• Must have strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is required.
• Experience in Quality Control, ISO documentation and 6-Sigma desired.
• Must have the ability to maintain a neat and organized lab and to work safely.
