Job Description

Are you a Reliability Engineer with experience in conducting reliability on injection molds, composites, and/or plastics?

The reliability engineer is dedicated to using fundamental failure analysis methodologies to derive root cause of repetitive/cyclic failures observed during the life cycle of aircraft seat assemblies and seat sub-components and define tests to detect and design out these failures in the future. The reliability engineer also establishes reliability, maintainability and availability predictions and forecast mean time to failure in order to guarantee design functionality.

2) Duties and Responsibilities (essential functions): 

A) Define lifecycle acceptance criteria for seat components and mechanisms.

B) Assessment of existing reliability test methodologies, procedures and specifications.

C) DoE to develop test plan methods and set ups to ensure product robustness and performance.

D) Replicate product malfunctions under control conditions for failure diagnosis.

E) Oversee Accelerated Stress Testing (AST).

F) Build reliability prediction models to evaluate product functionality.

G) Perform statistics and probability analysis for Reliability, Maintainability and Availability (RMA).

H) Anticipate reliability related risks for Risk Assessment.

I) Contribute to developing engineering solutions to failures observed during the life cycle of seats and seats components.

J) Work in conjunction with other engineering and management groups (e.g. Design Engineering, Certification Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Fabrication, Operations, and Field representatives).

K) Provide feedback to new product development and design engineering.

L) Performs other duties as assigned.

3) Qualification Requirements:

A) Knowledge and Skills:

i) Solid understanding of Mechanical Systems

ii) Basic understanding of electrical systems

iii) Knowledge of CAD systems (Pro-Engineer and CATIA v5) preferred

iv) Knowledge of Reliability, Maintainability and Availability (RMA) – certifications not required. BSME

v) Proficient in data analysis techniques including: • Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA)

• Accelerated Stress Testing (AST)

• Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA)

• Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) (Preferred)

• Design of Experiment (DoE) (Preferred)

• Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) (Preferred)

• Reliability Block Diagram (RBD) (Preferred)

• Mean Time to Failure Analysis (MTTF) (Preferred)

• Statistical Analysis (Weibull, Binomial, Poisson, etc.) (Preferred)

B) Education and Experience:

i) Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related engineering degree; or minimum of 12 years equivalent related experience based on education and or experience will be considered in lieu of degree.

ii) 5 years of experience in reliability engineering or related experience.
