Job Description

VOLT is currently recruiting for a Lead Web Developer to join a successful and respected company in the FM area.

The lead developer ensures that departmental standards and principles are communicated throughout the team and are actively enforced and is the go to person when team and cross-department members need assistance.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Develop, maintain and regulate code and user interface design standards for all personnel publishing to the website.
  2. Encourage creative development and participation within the team and help to formulate that creativity into projects that benefit the team objectives.
  3. Act as example to all web team members by being the person who most closely follows the principles and practices we have committed to.
  4. Collaborate cross departmentally to plan, design, develop, test and maintain projects and technologies; ensure consistency with brand and code standards. Guide team development efforts towards successful project delivery including scope and deadlines.
  5. Provide technical leadership to teammates through coaching and mentorship; train on better ways of doing things and help team members to improve their skills; oversee training and setup for new hires.
  6. Be the point person for the development team when site issues arise; assist in troubleshooting efforts and delegate duties as necessary to return the site to stable conditions.
  7. Maintain and update departmental standards and principles documentation and ensure all team members understand and are actively producing work to those standards so that work is done to the highest possible quality; prepare reports, manual and other documentation as necessary.
  8. Research new technologies for the team; make recommendations regarding hardware and software upgrades to management; work with management to keep systems updated and functional; set the technical direction for the team.
  9. Guide team development efforts towards successful project delivery including scope and deadlines.
  10. Identify and encourage areas for growth and improvement within the team.
  11. Delegate and troubleshoot opportunities as they arise.

Competencies Required:

  • Deep understanding of usability best practices and methodologies and of user-centered design principles as related to eCommerce
  • Relentless attention to detail, commitment to producing quality work, deadline conscious
  • An innate love of web development, design and all things that go with a world class eCommerce experience
  • Extensive experience with HTML, JavaScript, CSS (LESS) and Adobe CS
  • Extensive experience with JavaScript libraries and frond-end frameworks (jQuery, Bootstrap, etc.)
  • Experience with versioning and revision control software such as SVN and GIT
  • Understanding of cross-browser/platform issues and solutions
  • Ability to test own work and troubleshoot bugs
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills; ability to successfully communicate with all levels of management
  • Must be capable and comfortable multi-tasking between concurrent tasks with changing priorities and deadlines

Education and Experience Required: Bachelor’s degree in Web Development or Web Programming with 3-5 years experience in a similar field, at least 1 year good standing on the Web User Experience team. Or; an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential responsibilities and duties of the job as listed above.
