This is for a direct-hire opportunity with a global provider of an integrated range of hardware and software solutions, consultancy and support services to the cash processing industry. The company is working with 230 customers across 106 countries, providing a range of high-speed cash sorting and authentication systems. The holder of this role will be a key player in an exciting and challenging high profile project with a multi-million dollar budget, targeting a solution for one of the largest financial institutions in the world!

Senior Project Engineer

The Position: We’re looking for a Sr. Project Engineer that will support the Engineering group to perform the activities needed to manage and deliver elarge and/or complex engineering development projects per internal agreements and/or executed contracts with our customers. This position is involved from concept definition to project completion.  Project teams typically include multiple disciplines (e.g. electrical, mechanical, software, and other specialties).  Coordination with various internal and external departments, vendors and subcontractors is required.

TheSr. Project Engineer will use best practices in project management to plan, execute, track, and report on projects.  A technical background is required in order to effectively communicate with the team, assess progress, and understand technical decisions and how they affect the project.  Regular reports and status are presented to management, including performance to budget, schedule, and the metrics used to measure that performance.

Sr. Project Engineer also requires an extensive knowledge of project management techniques, principles and practices to actively contribute to establishing best practices for engineering project and advises other project managers.

Accountabilities:

  • Proactively manage the activities required to plan and execute large and/or multiple complex development projects in accordance with the deliverables, time and budget. 
  • Adapt project plans to changes in business priority.
  • Recognize problems before they cause a project impact and act accordingly: identify the root cause, evaluate risks, plan and implement a solution.
  • Using a detailed knowledge of the project and the solution to be implemented, serve as the main point of contact on all project issues for both internal and external contacts.
  • Manage sub-contractors and suppliers to ensure they meet their project responsibilities.
  • Maintain cost control reports to provide visibility of project expenditures.
  • Maintain a project schedule document, ensuring all stakeholders are informed of status, as well as any risks and actions taken to mitigate these risks.
  • Maintain project files and documentation.
  • Chair and document internal and external project meetings.
  • Maintain a clear change management process so that all items outside the scope of the contract are highlighted and approved by the project stakeholders.
  • Assist and advise other project managers.
  • Contribute to department best practices for project management. Proactively direct activities within the engineering department, working as part of a team to effectively manage and co-ordinate resources to ensure the delivery of all projects.
  • High level of commercial awareness and business acumen, ability to understand the wider business context and demonstrate a commitment to supporting cross-organisational projects and programmes; able to balance the financial, quality, people and customer expectation and related risks.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor of Science degree in relevant field. (engineering degree is preferred)
  • Minimum of eight years relevant development project management experience, including large and/or complex projects from Heavy Industry leading electro-mechanical hardware development.  Specific experience focuses:
  • New product development/product introduction (APQP)
  • Advanced Product Quality Management
  • Design for Excellence – Design for Manufacturability, Reliability, etc
  • Highly organized individual with proven leadership capabilities
  • Product Management highly desired
  • Ability to build out processes and bring best practices to CPS.
  • Experience planning and tracking a project from a financial perspective.  (Establishing and executing a spend plan, cash flow plan and payment milestones, etc.).
  • The candidate should be commercially aware, able to understand contractual nuances and have a good grasp of financial data and analysis
  • Ability to quickly grasp technical concepts, effectively communicates with the team, assess progress, and understand the impact of technical decisions.
  • Proven leadership experience directing senior staff resources, including project managers, project lead, technical and other business resources
  • Experience tracking and managing a large bill of materials through the development, purchasing and production process.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, including presentation and documentation of project information.
  • Ability to effectively manage team members from multiple technical disciplines.
  • Experience managing projects within a formal project management process.
  • Expertise & experience in project management practices including best practices for planning, executing/tracking and completion/closeout of technology development projects.
  • Experience working with international teams preferred.
  • Knowledge of an ISO and/or CMM (or CMMI) certified organization is preferred.
  • PMI PMP certification is preferred.
  • Working knowledge & experience with ERP/MRP tools such as QAD or SAP preferred.
  • Familiarity with the PMBOK is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite, MS Project, MS Visio.
  • Expertise & experience interfacing with supply chain management and production/operations preferable
  • Experience in the cash sorting industry or adjacent industry selling physical products into the banking industry is hugely advantageous but not essential.
