Experienced sourcer of chemicals, related raw materials, formulated products, and outsourcing services needed for a Direct Hire opportunity with a chemical distributor in Indianapolis, IN.  Immediate need - apply NOW! 

The experienced Senior Purchasing Manager will report to the Vice President of Supply Chain Management and will be responsible for overseeing all of the Purchasing Department personnel and operations, as well as the management, organization and operational results of the department. The selected candidate will supervise the procurement of all materials and supplies necessary for company operations, and including the negotiation of the price and delivery.


The list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities.  Employee may perform other related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

  • Manager supplier relations and purchasing functions, developing and implementing company wide purchasing systems, and tracking indirect purchases
  • Collaborate with Inventory Control./Sales to ensure accurate forecasting & inventory planning achieving disposition of aged inventory through interaction with Sales & Marketing directing development of strategies to minimize on hand inventory. 
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy, continuously reducing costs by employing standard purchasing practices
  • Work with departments in other functional areas such as Sales, Marketing, Customer Service, Inventory Control, and Warehousing to ensure alignment of activities and objectives and provide best options for meeting customer needs
  • Oversee daily activity in the Purchasing Department; identifying and developing talent and appropriately managing personnel to ensure success of all individuals in the department
  • Ensure that expected value is archived from key supplier relationships, functioning as the front-line to the company and suppliers, and attending tradeshows and conferences to maintain and grow supplier relationships and increase supply base knowledge
  • Responsible for formulating and developing coordinated supplier strategies in line with product strategies in order to optimize pricing terms with suppliers. 
  • Manage strategic supplier accounts to drive supplier relations, sales, and margin improvements
  • Reviews purchasing reports and implement strategies to achieve gross profit goals
  • Identifies, evaluates and performs risk assessment on potential suppliers
  • Negotiates product pricing with suppliers
  • Promotes cross-functional exchange of information and open communication
  • Partners with IT to assure Purchasing Department has necessary tools to perform purchasing functions
  • Serves as a company resource on supplier information

  • Possesses excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Effectively trains staff on standard purchasing procedures
  • Prioritizes and assigns tasks to appropriate personnel
  • Creates and maintains strong positive relationships both internally and externally
  • Participates actively on company teams, sales meetings, etc
  • Demonstrates strong analytical and problem resolution skills
  • Appropriately manages workflow and conflicting operational demands

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business-related field. Must have at least 5 plus years of experience in related purchasing positions
  • 2 plus years of experience in chemical industry preferred
  • Excellent negotiating skills are essential, as in the ability to communicate successfully with all levels of management
  • 3 plus years of experience in manufacturing or distribution environment desirable
  • Must be capable of analyzing and evaluating vendor offerings to ensure that the best quality products are purchased in a timely manner and at a competitive price
  • Proficient in MS Office, Outlook and use of internet
