Sr. Systems Engineer II:

Security Clearance Required- Secret

Volt is seeking a Systems Engineer with a strong mechanical engineering background to support the development and modernization of airborne mechanical structures for sensor and weapon systems. The candidate will be responsible for deriving technical requirements, developing system architectures, and conducting trade studies. The candidate will work in a team environment, and be responsible for providing technical leadership to shape the overall technical solution. This role will participate in all phases of the development life-cycle.

Responsibilities and scope include:
• Provide Subject Matter Expertise to a team of Mechanical Engineers working to modernize airborne sensor and weapon systems
• Support the Business Development Team by providing briefings of products and solutions to the customer (internal and external), interpreting customer requirements and developing solutions
• Communicate and coordinate with technical leadership ensure that customer requirements are properly captured
• Help develop the technical vision and strategies for the program
• Provide project technical leadership and coordination
• Participate in pursuit, program readiness and design reviews
• Attend technical and programmatic meetings with customers, system users, development team members and represent the SE organization in matters pertaining to the project

Required Skills
• Systems Engineer with strong Mechanical Engineering foundations (airborne sensor / weapon system experience preferred)
• Proven experience in the development and support of pursuits and proposals (Tech Volume Lead, RFI responses, white papers/trade studies).
• Proven ability to develop proof of concepts, direct trade studies, and lead the development of rapid prototypes
• Strong leadership skills and communication skills
• Strong understanding of systems engineering lifecycle
• Proven ability to lead an engineering through the system engineering lifecycle (SRR/PDR/CDR and final sell-off
• Experience with the development and management of Bill of Materials (BOM)
• Demonstrated full knowledge of other related disciplines (e.g. Hardware Engineering, Configuration Management, Mission Assurance)
• Proven experience with the development of or evaluation of obsolescence plans
• Experience with CAD/CAM tools (or equivalent)
• Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Y14.5M-1994
• Experience with Design for Manufacturability (DFMA), Design To Unit Production Cost (DTUPC) Thermal Analysis and Mechanical Tolerancing
• Experience with Computer Based engineering tools: Pro/ENGINEER-Creo (MCAD), Windchill (Common PDM), CFDesign (Thermal Analysis/Design), MathCad
• Experience with Office, Project, Visio, Windows, DOORS (Requirement Management)

Desired skills
• Experience in the Missile Defense, and Airborne Sensor or Weapon System domain
• Experience with depot setup, logistics support and related processes
• Experience with Technical Subcontract Management
• Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), DoDAF, and other architecture frameworks
• Experience working in and with multi-discipline Agile Development teams
• Experience with DoD airworthiness processes for mechanical structures
• Active Secret

Required Education:

• BS in Engineering or Related field (Preferred Majors: Aerospace, Mechanical) and 6 years of relevant experience; Master’s with 3 years of relevant experience
